Since there seems to be a truckload of buzz asking questions about information in the Q&A I figure I'd ask something.

Will we be required to pay micro-transactions for a "Premium Account" (for lack of a better term) to form lances and entire companies? and can you form an entire company with just your friends and then go into public matchmaking?

As the WoT refugees know, Wargaming Monetizes playing with friends (though playing with just two people is free) and limits it to three people in one group for their laughable excuse for balancing, will PG do the same or similar?

They certainly haven't said they would. I doubt they would put that kind of hurdle in the way of friends playing together. They've never said anything about including premium accounts of any kind.

From the tweetchat:

Q: How can I guarantee my lance will be able to play together? eg the random matchmaking in other games is annoying
A: You can group together similar to a console party and then launch into a match as a group. [RUSS]

From what I have understand they have no plans for a premium account.

Ok that answers one question, but how big can those parties be is my second question, just a single lance of 4? or the full 12 player company?

I don't think they've said so explicitly, but I would expect up to 12.

There are no strict roles in MWO, there is role warfare but you can pick n' mix from the trees and modules. Also, just because someone may have spec'd into the command skill tree doesn't mean they get to explicitly dictate the orders, but they will have tools to assist directing and strategizing (players completing assigned orders will likely gain XP, so it's in their best interest to listen)

your pre-made team is welcome to organize themselves however they see fit

i for one would like a pretty rigid trinary structure with fixed roles to fulfill. That was one of America's Army i liked best, i think if there is any way to implement this better in a MMO that would limit randomness and erratic matchmaking, and would constitute a frame for a strategy, instead of the actual WoT merry-go-lucky, everyone for himself lack of organization

But that would get old fast frankly, If I feel like having a scout lance, or a support lance, or a lance full of assault mechs for laughs I'd like to have the option.

and it's also tactical flexible, which was the whole point of mixed lances anyway.

PG hasn't said that they will have premium accounts, but they are going to have to find ways to make money somehow. My guess is there is going to be some form of premium account. Probably how you can form Merc companies and get you extra c-bills and xp and whatnot.

Lots of other FTP games manage just fine without premium accounts. I would expect to see C-bill and/or XP multiplier boosts for sale, but not tied to a 'premium account'. I could envision forming a merc company costing a small fee, but a small group of friends should still be able to queue together even if they do not have an actual merc corp.

You don't need "premium" accounts to make money with a F2P development model. Simply having to purchase custom paint/new 'mechs/new weapons/any specialty ammo(if they have it) will be penalty of revenue. Even if some people will just grind to get XP and C-bills to purchase in-game new 'mechs and weapons. Also, the fan base wants to keep this going, and I for one will be sinking at least some money into it.

I can also see some matches only requiring just a lance vs lance and some more strategic worlds would probably call for full company size 12 vs 12.

Smaller engagements would be fun, and more suitable for testing a new mech, loadout, or module as well. They've said 'up to 12', so I would guess 4 vs 4 and 6 vs 6 and such are also in the system.

The IS doesn't have enough planets that each one would trade hands with a single battle. I exect it will be more of a MekWarz style where by winning your increase your factions percent control of the planet.

I believe you should be able to get 4v4, 8v8, and 12v12 matches going. I think if you queue up with 4 premade guys they're try to find another 4 premade guys for you to play against first, then move on from there to tthe 8v8 and 12v12.

The devs have stated you can form a four-man lance with friends in order to drop into the same fight on the same side. They haven't indicated we will be able to group in any larger numbers than four, though.

I think it would also be nice to be have the option to do 1 vs 1 matches, for trials, and duels grudge matches etc....

If they have 'premium' player status like WoT then I hope they let everyone form 4 man Lances (teams) but say Premium can form Companies of upto 12.
