Blodhgram, welcome to MechWarrior Online!

I suppose a positive and welcoming introduction has come too late, and I hope that you can come to a more reasonable conclusion about this game.

There are many longtime mechwarriors here in the game, you are not alone. It seems you were expecting a retail single player campaign retail release like all other previous mechwarrior titles, as myself and many others had hoped for. For numerous reasons that need not be delved into, this is not the case, and MechWarrior Online is an exclusively online, team-based MechWarrior instead.

There is an immense amount of Battletech enjoyment to be had here, I urge you not to take the incessant complaints of a small minority of players here on the forums as the summary of this game, otherwise you will miss out on a great deal of giant robot enjoyment. Have you tried joining a team on voice comms on the MW:O teamspeak server? There are many friendly people willing to answer questions and provide a much smoother play experience for you.

YES the game is in Beta, I'm sorry it didn't meet your expectations, much as it did not initially meet mine as well. Luckily I stuck with it, and find many an exciting match every night playing with fellow long-time mechwarriors. Many of the features you mention are only a matter of time before implementation, or have already been implemented, you simply need constructive guidance, something these forums unfortunately lack. There are many great features coming soon, on a consistent basis, and this game has improved a great deal upon mechanics of previous iterations of this franchise.

If resurrecting that feeling of jumping into a Battlemech and blasting autocannons into Inner Sphere death machines is what you want, I assure you this is the best place you will find that right now. Good luck, I hope to meet you on the battlefield!

1 minute. I see you're all on top of your game.

Blod, give it a shot mate. Yes, you can play full-screen, just have a gander in the settings. Don't let this "community" turn you off something you might enjoy before trying it (more than 1 game that is).

Yeah, it's not like the game had anything to do with making up his mind or anything...... It's all the community.

Minority?

Nope.

Guessing your one of the few vaingloriously blessed players with a lower than low ping, free time to burn and spare cash to boot.

Must be nice to be you...but representing the majority?

Nope.

Isn't that how Diablo 3 is played?

Diablo 3 was either an utter disappointment to people like me who played a whole lot of Diablo 1, or the greatest thing ever to those who just wanted to shoot lazor beams at cartoon zombies.

What they ment to say was with a good attitude like yours you will enjoy this game immensely as many of us do, but give it a day or two, too a few weeks for the community to ruin it for you with their incessant whining and buzz words like 'meta', 'state of the game', 'viable' and OHHPEE

-note, not what they ment to say at all

I have to say, community hasnt ruined it for me..

having to relog after 4 games
Black and yellow screen
guass shooting a shut down atlas at 10 Meters and it gets no damage
stealth mobs base rushing every 3rd game
list goes on and on

Yet despite all this it's still rip-snorting good fun. One game in four might get annoying because of various well-known issues but the balance is very positive.

balance? what balance? you now have a light mech, the raven ruling the field of battle...how is that a raven can take down an atlas...or for that matter a commando I was piloting take down 1 atlas and 2 heavies? Does that sound balanced, I guess ecm was great addition to game for balancing.

I see more light mechs in every match, mostly com and ravs....normally 4 on 8 man drops...that isnt balanced.

so you feel dissapointed in the game? why? im happy just to get behind the seat of a mech again!

also its only beta....

Amount of content we are getting and quality of it, for all the yellow screens, black screens, 4 fps memory leaks, CTDs and lag shields, for the AWFUL performance, average graphics*, no physics or destruction, small maps and 8v8.

By balance, I mean the balance of enjoyable games vs unenjoyable games. The Raven/Commando are very OP at the moment because of netcode+ECM+streaks, but this is very obvious, so given PGI's record I expect this to be fixed soon and consequently I don't get out of shape because of it. I still enjoy the great majority of matches I play. If I get annoyed by lag-shielded little horrors, I just drop in a DDC with ECM and streaks and make a point of zapping them. Very cathartic.

If it was not for the fact that a larger pool of people was needed for testing.. I think a decent chunk of the active forum population should not be in the beta as they do not really know how to handle it.

Any way, to counteract a few complaints (personal opinions i can not do any thing about)

Trial Mechs: These are stock version from each of the weight classes. And while the are not optimized they are far from useless and give you a very good chance to get to grips with the game (or if you are a vet, how this specific game) without having to worry about loosing money. It is also worth noting that the current implementation will get a work over shortly and is not the final product.

Matchmaking: Still in development and hopefully a hard filter will be put in place that prevents that sort of stomping that happens in pick up/random groups right now. Phase three of match making is to be deployed shortly.

The Grind: This is something you will have to get used to, since it is there to fill a function. This game i for all intents free to play. No box cost needed to start playing and no monthly sub to keep doing so. Also apart from two special mechs and more slots in your mechbay (you get 4 to start with) EVERYTHING can be bought with C-Bills (in-game money) so the grind is designed to be just so much of an annoyance that you feel it would be worth it to pay real money to skip it. Either by getting premium or buying a mech. It will be less tedious though once more maps and game modes comes in.

So while this might be a bit rough when you start out (as is the case with most PvP games) i can say it gets better. Don't bother with the people calling trial mechs useless because you can not Alpha your way from monday to sunday or that you should give up hope because the game is broken and incomplete, mostly because while the game is incomplete a lot have been done to improve it and the devs are fairly good at communicating with people.

As for the single player experience, PGI have stated several times that this is the forts step in what will hopefully be a revival of the franchise and if it take off it will give them a opening to explore in to the other stuff like a single player game.

In conclusion, Yes MWO is rough right now but see improvement with each patch, sure as always not every issue get resolved at once and not for everybody. But rest assure that for every one who have the 4 fps bug you as many if not more that never see that bug, same goes for the other. so to give up now would be to do yourself a disservice. But... That being said, if you want a polished gem you should perhaps come back in a few months. Because right now this game is more like the Black Thorns the the Kell Hounds.

For a free game this has more than surpassed my expectations. Of course there are things I am not happy with but this is a work in progress afterall. I am going to buy some MC to support the cause. Dollar cost averaging makes this game a bargin, think about a two hour movie + snacks at the theater...
