Lament Over A Broken Dream...

Then the console-entitlement-generation dropped in flanked by greed and snatched the game.
Gone are the days of wonder and excitement,
Now I can only shed tears over broken dreams and promises.
"yellowbird I see,
Grey Dragon hides wisely..."

I think this actually happened in 2002, took a few years to feel the full effect. Welcome to the modern industry I guess. Though I agree, the Xbox effect has killed some of what made PC gaming fun back in the day.

Hahaha.
No.
The consoleifcation, if there even is such a thing, happened when hardware stalled out with the 360 xbawks in 2005. We've seen so little progress in every field since, you can't really blame people for assuming games of a certain genre will stick to a certain formula - to the point where they were MAD THAT CRYSIS 2 WASN'T LIKE COD, GOD, ALL THESE CHOICES FOR MY BORING RIFLES AND NO LEAVING COMBAT ZONES, AND GRAPHICS! WHY CAN I PUNCH CARS AND HAVE TO SELECT MY GRENADES MANUALLY, MAN!?
But then again, we still get PC games that aren't like this, that takes risks. Sometimes, from people you'd least expect, like Square-Enix pushing for deus ex 3 to have modern PC grapics and every tech feature available.

You got that right. I had to listen to you all whine about tacticool it's a beta real man's battletech for half a year. Now that they're forced to use common sense, I am so squeezing all the value I can out of my 60 dollars.

Oh really, so that Xbox Live that was around and integral for the 360 didn't exist in 2002. Interesting.

The original xbox wasn't as popular as you seem to think. PS2 was.
I said XBOX LIVE, not Xbox.
Nor did I ever say it was popular, you assumed that. In fact the Xbox's popularity means absolutely nothing because without it's existence the 360 never would have existed in the first place nor would it have come equipped with the online system they had time to refine from lessons learned.
Of course we could just blame Atari.
