I've noticed afkers every round that I've been in and in pretty much ruins the game. I was wondering if there could be something like a cbill penalty added to the game. Like for everytime you afk you loose 100k cbill + damage costs to repair your mech if it gets destroyed while your afking.

Most if not all persons who are AFK have been disconnected by no fault of their own, but to a problem with the game that hasn't been fixed yet. I for one have been D/C in the middle of combat or before the match has even begun. I'm sure if you look in the forums i'm sure someone has made note of this to the Devs.

Check the Command chair post they have pretty much removed any incentive whatso ever of AFKing

Or they could just resolve the issues causing the Afk problems.

AFKers problem is intence, but many of them are just get black/yellow screen or fps bug. It would be rather disappointing to get penalty due to a bug like that.

I don't think they should penalize the AFK'ers who have those issues, but they should just fix the issues to prevent those who are AFK because of them.

No real way to differentiate between them, so you're left with one of two options: do nothing at the risk of penalizing a honestly disconnected/crashed player once in 10-20 games (of that single player) or incentivizing botting where all honest players are penalized in 2/3 of games.

I do believe the devs made the correct choice.

there is no such thing as AFK players , they become inactive ingame due to disconnect :
-CDT (Crash to Desktop )
-Yellow hud glitch
-Cannot move glitch
-Black screen glitch

all of the above , makes the game unplayable , so your only option is to disconnect .

Actually there have been a large number of people using 'bots' to launch games and the quit them as quickly as possible to generate c-bills as quickly as possible, all while physically AFK. This is the cheat the OP is discussing but the developers' new rewards scheme should help stop this, though with zero R&R costs it won't stop it completely.

Except there is sort of a solution for the yellow hud glitch:
1) alt tab out and back into the game if you are running fullscreen (this may or may not help)
2) right shift + F11, you don't have your hud but at least you can play
3) check and resync your neurohelmet

If you have a black screen you might be ingame, the only thing you can do is indeed disconnect. It would be nice though that if you have the bsod or yellowbug to hit your T key and report to your fellow players that you indeed have a bsod or yellowscreenbug and that you are leaving the game because of it. You may not see it, but they will.

Basically he's saying cause a Device Lost and the game is forced to reset it's graphics.
