I'd say that f2p makes this game possible. In case you didn't bother doing research, no one would had funded mechwarrior 5. They shopped it around for quite awhile.

^this^

The F2P model allows games to exist that wouldn't otherwise. I'm happy to be in the cockpit of a mech again, I'm not thrilled about some of their current pricing models (mainly the temporary paint) but there is nothing that you must buy to have the full mech-piloting experience.

I know, right?

This is pathetic. PGI should be making the game for free! Nothing should cost money at all! Hero Mechs, Cosmetics, all these things that have no affect on gameplay whatsoever. Who does PGI think they are trying to support their employees with proceeds from this game?! I don't have money, and as such, all games should bow down to my will and come into my price range! AAA games can be developed from NOTHING to complete in a single week! Why is this taking SO LONG!? If you make everything FREE, you'll make more money from more players joining and paying you nothing!

Rabble! RABBLE RABBLE!

... heh heh heh.

You completely missed the point, he would rather it were pay to play, a single one off purchase.

Commechnism is not love. Commechnism is a hammer which we use to crush the enemy.

That's a big false statement. This game would have done great as a kickstarter project. Or did you forget the millions upon millions that the Founders program brought to the game?

If they had put the project on kickstarter and advertised the game to be LIKE THEY DID IN THE VIDEO (you know the one I'm talking about, which is the game we all wanted) it would have been greatly successful.

This game makes LL look like a joke. Game looks horrid compared to this and isn't really Mechwarrior since the strongest stuff in LL aren't even the mechs lol. To each his own opinion though. This game is fine where its at. You want a real price scam play WOT or god forbid Planetside 2. Both of those will drain your cash far faster than this game ever will unless you're just too needy. One gun unlock in PS2 is $7.50 FOR ONE GUN or a 50% xp boost for one day is $5. Yeah Sony really wants your whole damn wallet, and premium tanks in WOT worth using are now $55+ a piece. Besides this game is more F2P and no P2W than almost any claimed F2P game that I've played or seen besides GW2 and Firefall which are the only two games I can think of that don't give you a ******** boost in power over someone without money. PGI has done more changes to this game based on community feedback than most developers have ever been wiling regardless of the negative remarks. The fact they even keep these forums going because of this negative crap is amazing to say the least. BEsides the money theyll earn from going long term F2P will soon make this the best Mechwarrior game EVER.

Well I guess he has a minor point, for $30 I got 19 mechs in MW4. Of course you never have to actually buy that specific mech or any of those.

I mean you can complain about prices, or enjoy the FREE game, or come to gripes with the fact that no publisher in the world was interested in MW5 under Microsoft's terms. Oh and thanks EA for that by the way.

One of the few people that know the truth behind MW5s demise. So many think Harmony Gold was the issue ><. No, this time Microsoft gave them the finger. MS said Windows only(PC and 360 exclusive) or screw off so PGI game them the finger and said nope, F2P TIME BETCHES!!!.

I am amazed at the number of people that have been brainwashed into thinking the F2P financial model is good for the gaming community.

Would you like some poisoned cool-aid too?

Millions upon millions which were nowhere near the amount a proper game title needs nowadays unless you're making a low budget indie game. They got $5 million from Founders. To fully fund a game's development you'd need closer to $50 million.

Actually kickstarter was a risk as the IP had effectively been dead for 10 years with no sign whether the audience was still there.

It's not a matter of thinking it is good, it's a matter of realizing that the gaming industry is changing and there really is nothing you can do about. Further f2p allows games to exist that otherwise would not.

Was kickstarter even the flavor of the month by that point? Its been around and I'm sure given Mechwarrior would have been successful but I honestly don't remember seeing kickstarter game articles weekly until 2012.

Don't be fooled; there was no point.

MW was in limbo. M$ held the license and we went through a DECADE of NOTHING from the game. PGI became a sub-licensee for the property on the PC platform and have been working to get us SOMETHING. This obviously was taken for granted.

How many mech bays do you want?

As far as F2P model we have no one to blame but ourselves. For rampant piracy, and some people have an odd sense of entitlement of "This game sucks so why don't I just not pay for it and play it anyway"... v. "This game sucks i'm not going to pay or play it."

Or "**** it I can get it it for free instead so why pay?"

Same reason for always on DRM/internet connection. I'm not saying I agree; rather a product of the times/conditions we've created.

To be honest, the only thing I really miss is the instant action mode, or as I like to called it, the "Free play" mode. Single player was great too but the multiplayer style kinda makes up for it as it feels like a online campaign if you ask me. I would really love to see a "Virtual Reality" mode introduced that can be accessed offline for the on the go Mechwarriors.

Let's pretend the rest of the game was up to snuff with what MW5 would of been. I STILL have to pay MORE than the cost of a FULL FEATURED RETAIL GAME just to get the number of mechbays that I want. JUST FOR ENOUGH MECH BAYS.

$65 gets you 15,000MC, which is...50 mechbays.

Are you saying that you need 54 mechbays? It sounds like that's what you are saying.

Star Citizen?

There have been many space sims to keep the genre alive. I can probably count on one hand the number of games in the mech sim genre, non of which has had success to be worthy of note.

Also keep in mind that the MWLL team could of simply upgraded their engine to solve their problems/bugs to focus more on the graphics (Which I still do think are amazing for an indie game) But they decided not too because that would compete with MWO and they did not want to pull fans away from MWO. The updated to cryengine 3 would be free for them too since they are not making a profit off the game.

I liked having a new color to my old map, I actually like a new play style to make sure it works, and we know how it works, before we get a new map and find out the game modes, don't work.. If you likie Living Legendsso much, why don't you Marry it

Cuz we all know MWLL is a dead @#$ I mean those mechs walk around like cardboard cutouts. While I respect MWLL it has nothing on MWO now or ever. .

MWLL is not a game, it is a mod. There is quite a huge difference.

Umm... bye?

This game if you dump $60 in it would give you any 2 mechs you wat and get you up to 6 bays... you know like 6 charector slots the same you get in any game... then you earn the cash for the other 4 mechs... and um...

Are you serious? You don't get it?

It's a first person shooter... they are not going to get subscription fees... there are lots of other first person shooters.. some of which are free (Urban Terror I happen to love is free.) so how do you get new people to hand you money for a game when they haven't gotten the chance to play it? Lets sit down and brain storm... OMG JUST LIKE THIS!!!

Not enough maps... my god child... it's BETA... not release... DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORD MEANS?

Just go cry to mommy for $15 bucks... and then ask her if you can stay up an hour later to play because you got a new mech and be quiet.
