I actually don't mind F2P for MMO game. PGI wouldn't get the revenue needed to continue the project if this was a single purchase game.
I don't think MechWarrior has enough market interest to support a single purchase game. It does however have an avid fan base that is willing to support the franchise and PGI can continue releasing content (new Mechs once a month or so, people buy them) via a F2P system.
In addition, looking at some of the recent demographics polls people have posted, it looks like the core user base (at least on the forum) is somewhere between 25-40, which are people who typically have some disposable income. I'm OK with shelling out $15-20 a month on a game I enjoy that I can keep enjoying without a subscription.

Yeah, it does. It's completely sad. This should of just been MW5 and not this horrible, half in, half out F2P milk-you-for-all-your-paycheck BS.
Let's pretend the rest of the game was up to snuff with what MW5 would of been. I STILL have to pay MORE than the cost of a FULL FEATURED RETAIL GAME just to get the number of mechbays that I want. JUST FOR ENOUGH MECH BAYS.
This is a joke. 30$ unique variants? Are you kidding? Do you have a conscience?
It may blow your mind Piranha, but people want MORE MAPS, not muddy reskins fo the same played out ones. If this wasn't a locked down F2P mess then we would have access to tons of community maps, but we don't!
The only good thing I can say about Piranha is that they are democratic enough to allow negative opinions on their forums, which is more than many companies will do. As far as making games is concerned, they SUCK though.
Mechwarrior: Living Legends makes MWO look like it was made by gibbering child.

I think the phrase 'set your bar low enough' comes to mind. It's funny to read people's responses, how they're so desperate to play a MW title again, they'd play any paint-by-numbers game with Battletech designs in it no matter how subpar. Guess nostalgia is a bankable thing, can't wait to reap the rewards with a substandard WoT clone using the StarSiege universe.

Much as this post looks.
Fortunately for you, there is a simple solution: if you feel the in-game items are too expensive, you may choose not to buy them. I know that might take some time to register, but trust me. It's a revolutionary moment.

Also keep in mind that the MWLL team could of simply upgraded their engine to solve their problems/bugs to focus more on the graphics (Which I still do think are amazing for an indie game) But they decided not too because that would compete with MWO and they did not want to pull fans away from MWO. The updated to cryengine 3 would be free for them too since they are not making a profit off the game.
I didn't mean what I said to reflect badly at all on MWLL at all, but there are a number of regular trolls that praise all that is MWLL and say that every move PGI makes sucks in comparison....
...I honestly can't remember a single name from the guys who were developing MWLL. I was among the first people to register on their forums, easily in the first 50 members to register with them. I've never had anything but good relations with those guys and nothing but good hopes for their mod/conversion. I'm pretty sure if I check the Banzai archives that he probably approached us before ever even officially launching the MWLL site.
But lets face it. Its been several years, and its still in beta. What they've accomplished with no budget is amazing, hell before they ever really got close to doing much, Crytek hired one of the guys and moved him to Germany, but it still isn't a replacement for MW4 and certainly couldn't possibly compete with a commercial development like MWO.
While the MWLL guys are an absolutely great bunch, there's only so much that guys can accomplish on their free time, and their goals were a little to ambitions for their resources.
What I was getting at in my post is that there are a few guys from the old days who troll the forums. Most pump MWLL, I think I might have once seen a guy praise J-hole from MekTek. In any case, seeing a guy with only a few posts spout out the same garbage that's been repeated a thousand times by the usual suspects instantly leads me to think someone is smurfing.....
..so I say troll.

As this thread predictably has strayed into the dark side, I'll be locking this thread.
Cheers.
