I think, the cockpit does belong there, but i think the benefit of disabling it isn't THAT huge that this option should not be there.Think i could live with it

It's a fine line you walk.
You either remove the things that a large majority of the series' fans enjoy, thus robbing the game of its identity and making it more cookie cutter and like other games (which there are a plethora of) for the sake of increasing the user base.
Personally, I'm a fan of the cockpit view; the player is not a human walking around a battlefield on foot, which would have allowed them to have a more unrestricted view; instead, they are in vehicle, like the slits and viewports for tanks, and as such have a limited field of view (some chassis providing better than others).

You act like a 'Mech can't figure out how to identify where it's getting shot from without being able to see their opponent.

Again, good pilots don't have this problem noobs do. Removing the cockpit UI means newbs are on equal footing o experienced pilots which I don't support. It's something quickly learned, but something that needs to be learned none the less.

Because if mechs had cockpits that had anywhere near that range of visibility the pilots would be dead in 5 seconds

True if you use glass. However, imagine a cockpit with no glass covered with something akin to complete surround LCD screens. You'd have 180x180 vision and no weak points (until you lose power).

Keep it the way it is. Personally I prefer a simulation to a game, and although I suck thus far, acting as if my life depended more upon my working with a group and with the obstacles of a Machine adds to the real-life experience. I don't want everything to be easy. Just give us a level field wherein we have the opportunity to learn and make mistakes. If you've ever been in a tank, you'll appreciate small portholes, periscopes and less glass when you're more worried about survival.

The thing is. The cockpit does significantly effect gameplay. In MW 4, there was a specific option when you were hosting a multiplayer game that allowed you to lock it so everyone had to use the cockpit 1st person view. This is because no cockpit, and especially a 3rd person viewpoint gives you a significant advantage over someone in 1st person cockpit view. If both were options there would be a moderatley significant discrepency.
