You will never be able to fire 6ML and 4 SRM6 with any consistency, it is just too hot.

Missed this last part. Yeah - so the way I use my brawler is in line with the Stalker's name: I'll skirt around the outside of a battle and come up on the enemy's flank. When this works, it works amazingly well, but I'd say half the time I round a corner right into an assault lance (leads to a REAL short game for me).

The SRMs aren't really accurate enough to knock someone out with one or two salvos, but they can weaken a few spots at once. I'll usually trundle up on someone who's engaged and doesn't see me coming, and let loose at point-blank range with all the missiles. They're also effective at chasing off lighter mechs, who oddly can't take 24 points of damage across a side more than once.

The ML are the primary weapon and I can either cycle them or do a pseudo-alpha with just them on one spot. 30 points on one spot on just about any mech will get their attention. If they're not paying attention, two will kill them. But you're right: more than a couple blasts with all of them at once is asking for a shutdown, and firing off all the SRMs and MLs at once is going to see me smoking a hole in the ground.

It's a balancing act.

Damn you PaintedWolf for posting vids of the 6 PPC Lightning God stalker! LOL! I just bought a stalker to try and recreate this beast. How do you keep that thing from having a heat stroke everytime you fire it? I crammed every DHS on it I could, and I can only rock 2 ERPPCs and 2 ERLLAs (still hilariously effective though). I'm using the chassis variant with 6 energy slots, 5 missile slots, and 2 AMS slots (can't remember what it's called - 5S?). Can you provide more details?
First, do not expect to get high damage values. I have gotten over 800pts, but the enemy refused to shoot at me for reasons I cannot fathom. For maximum DHS, on a six PPC Stalker, you want a 275XL. There is more space for DHS with a 300XL, but the engine is too heavy. Gauss rifles out range you, so do not try to engage snipers, but do take shots at anything else that comes into view. For maximum kills, wait for the brawl to start, find an enemy circling a friendly, and shoot it in the back. Cataphracts taking 6PPC's to the rear armor go down in one shot. The mech will shut down, so only take a second shot at a target if it is alone. If you missed with the first shot, only take a second one if it is going to die. If the enemies are busy fighting your team mates, it is possible to just go shoot, shoot, shutdown, shoot, shutdown shoot, . . . Stay with friends, or lights will kill you.

This is just good advice for Stalkers in general. I've taken out *A* light that was circling me before, but if you get cornered by two, or a Centurion and a Light, you're in serious trouble: it will not take them long to bore through your side torso, no matter what they're packing.

Unless I'm going out in my LRM boat, and even then, I usually wait until the brawlers engage before I trundle in: Stalkers are BIG targets and I've had people ignore a pair of Atlases and a Highlander just to go after me in multiple games (probably because of the lack of ECM makes me targetable? Who knows...).

I kind of like this build as a good "waddle into battle" 3F. I like the huge engine for quick torso twists and the ability to get in and out of combat quick. I've noticed the most successful games I've played have come when I play the Stalker like its namesake, slinking into battle on the flanks, finding a target that isn't paying attention, and whittling them down before they realize they're being hit from the side or back.

The LRM 10s are just for long-range harassing. Just to give me something to do while moving in. The 6ML are the real punch, and enough Double Heatsinks to fire a few salvos (or continuously cycle).

The 4N isn't terrible, especially if you just want to boat energy weapons. I bought one a while back on sale and have since mastered it. I mainly use it now for experimental builds, like the 4 LPL + 2 ML build I'm rocking now (which is beastly but hot).

A few Stalker builds.

STK-3F balanced

STK-3F LRM support

STK-5S Brawler

I like the balanced one the best. LRM rain till under 180 meters, then it's 5 ML and 2x 4srms. When too hot I just switch the 5 ML's to chainfire. This has been my savior many times. Because I can usually just keep shooting the ML :D

Yup, but by that time I won't matter anyways, because most of the time when they do go for my CT both right and left torso are gone and I don't have any weapons left :D

I run a STK-3F as a ppc boat, it has 4 ppc and 2 erppc 1.07 on the heat scale , and ya it does run hot but if you chain fire you can control the heat. Usually i can get off 2 alpha strikes before shut down and the shut down is only for a moment

STK-5S

STD 280 engine
DHS
ES
Full armor.
1 PPC
3 MLs
4 SRM6s (600 tons ammo, honestly, way more than needed, but lots of empty space...)
BAP
Artemis
2 AMS (1 ton ammo)
This is an incredible close-range brawler and the PPC gives you the versatility to pound the enemy at long range. The full armor and dual AMS means it takes a LOT of work to take this mech down. My average damage is 250-650, 1-3 kills per match, and I JUST finished this rebuild. Absolutely love it.

I've been having fun with this 3H build over the last couple of days:

STK-3H XL310 2xLRM20 2xPPC

Runs cool enough for continuous chained fire, tears apart mediums, heavies and assaults from 180m out to 1000m, not defenseless in a brawl, can provide fire support with LRMs, disables ECMs without breaking a sweat.

Unfortunately, once in a while somebody in a fast mech figures it out and runs right up to my face and gives me the mechwarrior death hug. So I'm thinking about switching to ER PPCs, but then the heat, oh the heat! :)

My favorite is this 3F loadout:

4x LPL (2 per arm, rest of arm space full with DHS)
21 DHS
300 std engine
endo steel
AMS

heat efficiency 1.3

Speed is hard to rate when you compare builds on paper, but for me it's been both a life saver and a speedup for kills. 21 DHS manage the 4 LPLs quite ok on all maps except the hot ones (tourmaline+crater map).

The other build for the STK-3F I really like is

300 std engine
4x ML (2 per arm)
4x SSRM2 (1 ton of ammo)
2x LPL (torsos)
21 DHS
full armor except some stripping on legs (about 57 on each leg)

The ranges of weapons are very nicely aligned. This guy brawls like a beast :)

I get my best results with my STK's running something alot like the Balanced build. That recipe has gotten me by far the best results in terms of matches won and Kills to Deaths ratios the entire time I've played MWO. I generally run SSRM2's instead of the larger SRM launchers to deal with lights that come knocking. STK's have such a crap turn rate I don't really count on being able to line the little ******** up for direct fire. With the weight saved I try and mount a Beagle to offset the friggin' ECM.

for the lrm lover!!
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ac4e74fbac43c6c
i do really well in this build. i have very good map awarness so i stay out of harms way because i see it coming a mile away.
once you have mastered this which i already have, you will pwn mechs with your superior damage and positioning.

you dont need much armor as a lrm boat only good positioning and the illusion of armor.

enjoy your welcome!!
