I finally dropped in river city night tonight, and it was great. Very spooky, and for once all the PUGs huddled in a group because they couldn't see anything and couldn't find the 'N' or 'H' keys on the keyboard.Everything is monochrome green under the NVGs including enemy mechs, which still makes them harder to see against the background, which in my opinion is an especially good thing.

However, the NVGs need work to be even the least bit effective. The fact that they illuminate only ~100m around your mech is kinda silly, and basically looks like the effect you get from a "Nightvision" store bought toy that has little more than a flashlight attached to a pair of binoculars with a green filter. This only makes them moderately useful for not tripping over small obstacles, and the tradeoff from thermal makes them kinda pointless to use. Crappy old ANVIS-9's (in use today) will let you see a decent amount of detail for a few miles, with the first ~5m a bit blurry and out of focus. Please, extend the range of visibility of the NVG's if possible. That's the only tweaking they really need.

Other than the viewing distance problem the effect is perfect and brings back old memories for me. I'd rather the focus was first leveled on the bugs and optimization in the game of course, but please keep this consideration on the burner. Right now the NVG's seem cool to experience once but ultimately silly, and I'd hate to see them completely nullified in favor of thermal vision.
