Hey guys,
Just a short rant here; but its like this.
I've been playing Battletech since I was four years old, not kidding, my old man gave me a copy of Crescent Hawks Inception on PC when i was a kid. However, i work upwards of 100 hours a week (don't ask), and don't really make much money to boot; therefore, I am really looking forward to "owning" my mech of choice.
What do I mean by that?
I wont have alot of time or money to unlock a "stable full" of mechs. I'll have one or two mechs, that hopefully ill customize slightly to my play style, and use them constantly. Hopefully ill become so proficient with those mechs that ill be able to smash anyone else into the ground.

Thats the idea.

I know alot of people are going how much is each mech going to cost? DAMN!! I think the idea here is to take ownership of your mechs. I bet the resale value of a mech is decent...

Anyway... what do you guys think?

Lots of mechs? Or one really awesome mech.

Depends on how I'm feeling and what my lance needs. Sometimes a scout will be best or more fun to play, and sometimes a heavy or assault will. I think that customizing your Mech no matter what will help everyone enjoy the game.

but you know what i mean
I wouldn't mind having only two mechs that I really enjoyed playing. Maybe one Quick Medium and one Heavy with alot of firepower.
But I don't necessarily feel entitled to be able to field any mech I want at any period in time.

And i think its a good thing. You'll feel more like a "pilot" and less like a "player".

You're going to have to "level-up" your chassis through the game so I think your play style would fit very well.

What i think is yes sorta, spending more time in fewer mechs will give you that edge of knowing your target sillouhette instinctively as you jj, or come around a corner, or try to snipe from a hill horizon.. But given the timeline i think you're gonna find better mechs coming out in years to come (especially when clanners hit) and you can choose to stick with what you got but from a math perspective of what can be mounted you might fall very slightly behind the curve. alot of that can just be made up with replacing weapon systems with the more up to date variants but i think you'll find mechs in a year that are just a lil BETTER on the whole (not definitively hugely, and not to the point where if you've got something purpose built, the exp, and and something unique it would force you into something esle)

I generally prefer the "less is more" approach, having to switch gears constantly gets a bit tiring. My plan is to concentrate on a single chassis until I elite it out, then stick with the version I had the most fun with. So..a bit of both on this end. I'll probably own a lot of 'Mechs in my career, but I'll end up with a few chassis that I'm very, very good with.

agreed, got to elite out a small number instead of racing to collect them all.

Nah I think that's a good way to do it, I mean, I'm sure I'll probably end up with a stable full of mechs simply because it's my nature but I'll probably focus on one or two primaries that will be my favored group role. I like to dabble in everything but I'm usually fairly focused on one or two styles of play and that suits me just fine.

Well based on my WoT time I deffinetly will have a few mechs that I "own" yet still have a larger stable to play with. I'm very random. So yeah, I have my KV-1, KV-2, KV-3, KV-4, KV-5 that I keep and play all the time (see a pattern?) but play with bigger and better or more specalized tanks whenever the spirit takes me.

So I guess I'll do both? Especially if the unseen show up I'll be "owning" them but even with the announced mechs I know I'll be "owning" an Awesome and a Stalker two of my favorite mechs of all time.

Thinking about multiple mechs... will you be able to switch out your mech during a battle? One of the worst parts of MW4 (In my opinion) was the need to leave the server and reconnect every single time I wanted to change my Mech...

i am sorta in the same situation as you, i have always gravitated towards a single chassis and mastered its every aspect
i would dabble with others and enjoy them a lot but always found my self back in my love

in mw4 i earned quite the reputation as a Timberwolf pilot
i could make her dance and take way way more damage than most people thought possible (before mektek fixed her hit boxes)

currently i looking forward to seeing what the Centurion can do
not to much else in the current line up as excited me pilot wize but i absolutely LOVE all the new art

but who knows what i will find in the full game
i will run at least one mech of each class, making sure i have something for each role as needed
but i will always come back to my love .... who ever she may be

I'll have my personal then a secondary specifically spec'd for play with my lance.

More mechs would come, but it'd be when I'm 100% satisfied with the first 2.

I would definitely have to go for multiple mechs. But I want to see the game from everyone's perspective.

For my founder's I wanted the catapult for the support role, but I could probably go for a hulking Assault mech every once in a while, or even try my hand at running a light mech to see what the scouting role is all about.

All in all I think I would get bored of a single mech quickly, I would have to try out every weapon combination in every mech I owned.

I would totally "own" a mech and make it my baby... although I'm not really in love with any of these designs so far. I like the look of the Cicada and maybe the Cataphract, so maybe if I like the way they handle, I'll go with one of those.

Otherwise, I'll probably have a stable full of mechs for testing lots of different mechs, and adapting tactics as needed.

If I could have my mech's in the colors I want, then I would own them. I would even give the digital rights, to who ever wanted them

At the moment I fancy filling my bays with Raven, Centurion, Catapult, Awesome, Atlas (Elite version) and trying them out to see which I want to specialise in. I'll probably naturally end up favouring certain mechs and concentrating on them when I have some experience of real gameplay, but we will possibly need to have different classes available depending on whether drop limits are a factor.
