I have a HBK-4SP that I love. I'm not really interested in the other HBK's, maybe in the H for a ballistics option. I also have a DRG-1C that I really like. Unlike the HBK, I am slightly interested in getting additional variants of the DRG (I'm thinking a 1N for dual ballistics and a Flame for an AC/20 and CB bonus).

What are your opinions on "Eliting" a chassis? Is it worth buying hard earned CB on something you don't really want just to get the "elite" perks on the variant you do really like?

Elite is definitely worth it, since it doubles the Basic bonuses.
Master, on the other hand, is just an additional module slot.

Edit: Also, the Elite bonuses are rather nice to have, especially Speed Tweak (which now works correctly as well)

It is.

Getting elite doubles the bonus for your basic skills and allows you to unlock speed tweek and quick fire.

Master, not so much(right now) since the only bonus you get is the extra module and there arn't enough modules that are worthwhile.

Yes, just for speedtweak and fast fire, this two efficiencies give you a substantial buff.

If you really love a mech you are hurting yourself by not eliting it. There are some exceptions though--chassis with truly deplorable variants. There are some!

When I say deplorable I mean one good and two terrible. Slogging through one bad chassis is okay as almost all mechs have one... but two...

It is hugely worth it, in my opinion. The heat dissipation and maximum speed boosts from the Elite skills make a noticeable difference. The doubling of the Basic skills when you reach Elite is also a game changer. Do it.

Yes it is, you get doubled efficiency on basics. The elites are also just worth it by themselves. Once you've spent the C-Bills, you may as well unlock master also before selling. That extra module slot isn't useful immediately, but no point denying it to yourself.

Might be worth mentioning that the hunchback 4J has almost exactly the same hardpoints as the 4SP but in different places. So I bascially copied the loadout I was using in the 4SP to the 4J and it helped along the way to mastering the hunchbacks since I only wanted the 4SP anyway.

Edit: You don't even need to buy the same weapons again, just take them out of the 4SP and then put them back again when you are done with the 4J.

If you want to run a Module, or get the Speed Tweak, then Yes. If you just want to run around and shoot something, then Maybe.

Yes of course its worth it....The Downside is that you have to buy 2 extra of the same chassis(that you may not even want to keep) but different models to unlock the Elite. So it is expensive to get

Ah... I did not know that elite also double the basic bonuses.

Sounds like a resounding "yes".

It's usually worth it. Mastering is more debatable, but Speed Tweak at least is a must get if you get that far.

Going for master in the variants is a good way to grind cbills too, though on sub standard mechs it can be tiresome.

Raven is a really good example of this... *that* was a painful experience!

Getting EXPs for loaner mechs saves you purchasing one variant if you can get it done in two weeks or so.
