That's what CASE is for. Half a ton and one critical spot keep the ammo explosion from going past the torso it's installed in. If you don't want to spend the extra weight or space, your eventual explosion in pretty fireworks is on you.

Yes I'm aware of CASE, wouldn't run a serious ammo-hauler without it. I was responding to the suggestion that overriding a heat shutdown should be "crippling". I was just pointing out that getting your torso ripped out by ammo explosion + CASE -is- crippling. Not sure what worse you could do to the mech and still keep anyone driving ammo-users.

In the mechlab video with the hunchback, Paul explained that after all the armor in one segment of your body it shot out, the next shot in the same place will set off the ammo. How much damage the explosiong will deal or anything else I have yet to know.

A traditional ammo explosion deals the full damage of all the ammo that explodes.

I completely agree with you. It shouldn't have to necessarily kill you, but then again I guess it all depends on how much and of what type of ammo you are carrying. Say - in this unlikely scenario - you had damage concentrated exclusively on the LT and it sets off an ammo explosion. If the internal structure in CT and RT are more or less intact then it shouldn't be a killing blow. Losing an arm is of course crippling.

What I wonder is what's to stop an all-laser Mech from running hot and overriding shutdown all the time? Does it cause internal damage?

And should deliver that late night maximum burrito overload explosive feeling, impairing actuators at those locations.
