Greetings warriors!

I stopped playing more than a month ago when the bugs etc were to frustrating for myself.

I am here to ask how the game has progressed.
I have heard that it has drasticly deviated from the simulation it was intended to be. Also a fair number of people saying its to much like a console game now. Any truth in these statements?

Basicly I would like to hear what the community thinks of the progress. Preferably without hate mongering. Don't get me wrong, if you are unimpressed or down right hating the direction of the game I would like to hear it, but in a calm and rational manner.

Thanks in advance to all posters for their time.

They're making babysteps in vaguely the right direction. Hit detection is still an absolute mess, lot of people saying they still get performance issues. Balancing still heavily favours fast Light Mechs playing Call of Duty style -- helped even more now by ECM bubbles making them immune to lock-on weapons.

I'm sure others will say plenty, but the one important thing you need to know is:

Don't listen to zverofaust.

Erm the game plays exactly the same piloting wise. I assume the drastic deviation from the simulation which sounds quite over blown is the removal of R&R, and it's implementation into rewards, so less rewards but no repairing. The cadet bonus for new players up to their 26th game they will get bonuses to push them up to the 8 million cbill mark.

Conquest, which ironically is more of a team deathmatch than assault. Needs some tweaking.

Better, when even Nonsense tells you not to listen to someone, it's pretty bad.

Because the guys named "Nonsense" is probably much more reliable... (JK)

ECM has probably changed the game enough in itself that it's worth you checking out again, and deciding for yourself whether you like it or not. They stated in their recent dev diary that they're working on hit detection improvements and are hoping to get enough testing done in time for a late january update.

Performance has been significantly improved over the last two patches but still needs work.
Balance issues still abound, but they're making slow improvements, particularly with Gauss, autocannon, and PPC's.
The netcode is still very bad, but there should be a significant improvement in one of the January patches.

All in all, it's starting to shape up but it's slow going. This latest patch made things a lot more enjoyable for me, but ymmv.

-EDIT-

One thing definitely worth mentioning is that PGI's communications has improved drastically over the last few weeks. They've been regularly updating us about issues and timelines. It's been a little... strange... actually.

"Its getting there" maybe best describes the current state of the game. PGI is communicating, progress is made on several fronts each patch and bugs are getting stomped out bit by bit. Far away from finished or polished, though.

Enough has changed since open beta... opened, to make trying MWO again worthwhile. Aside from ECM, there really haven't been any real game-changers in terms of equipment. There are still bugs that REALLY need to be dealt with. Other than that, its still pretty much the same game we've been playing , just with a few more features. Far from done, but its getting progressively better, instead of the other way around. If you really want to have fun though, a group is still the way to go.

Thanks for the responses folks.

I gotta say I have been playing a bit here and there since I created this post. Won some, lost some. But the main point is I had a blast!!!!

Some of the recent changes need tweaking I agree but I gotta say I can't remember the last time I had so much fun and the adrenaline was pumping a few times!
Had one Conquest match where the last 3 mechs each side were heavies fighting it out around a control point. The excitement and adrenaline was so high I had a hard time aiming! Glorious shredded metal!

Some good progress being made, enough to make me want to find an active unit and join the rest of you crazies :D
