Accuracy would require 'savant' level skills typically, but the offset to this is in piloting skill.

the offset for me in fun lol more fun to use joystick for me

Option C: Joystick and Mouse

Joystick for throttle & leg-turning; mouse for torso pitch/yaw.

i refuse to vote in the poll; i only use the m/kb because the current stick isn't completely analog and it is too much of a pain to test/tweak/test/tweak (ad infinitum) in the normal drop format (give us a training/testing drop), and i do not want some m/kb spokesperson using my misery to prove some invalid point.

my answer is Joystick Hotas for trottle and turning, and the mouse for the upper body.

by the way PGI when will you implement anaologous turning? It sucks playing with a joystick to have digital turning on/off only.

I actually bought a Flightstick for MWO, before Beta begins, my bad. And after a few tries to get it to work i refuse to play weeks ago until Joystick works. Maybe im weird, but for me there is only one way to drive an Battlemech and this is a stick. I play all Egoshooters since 1995 with Mouse/KB. I thougth MWO would be something special, my fault -_-

I have no issues at all playing with a CH 568 Combatstick + Saitek pedals.

I think the only thing I had to change in the .cfg file was the Y-axis invert, the rest of the JS settings I handled with the CH software to adjust the JS movement gain on the X-axis to make the torso twist faster.

Didn't think about breaking out my Nostromo but, I think that may work with mouse also. Though I don't find the buttons on them as easily lined up as on the number pad. It's the same reason I don't use wasd. The keys don't line up properly. Combine that with my long fingers and, slight tremors, it makes them hard to use on the fly.

Why no option for trackball and keyboard?

Logitech m570 ftw.

I tried a Nostromo but due to crushing and electrical damage to my left hand I really cant make the pinky or ring finger do what I want. So I lose most of the use of the buttons. So I got a Razer Naga instead lol

The joystick is a lot superior when it comes to torso twisting & firing while circle strafing, something A/D analog input just can't replicate for aiming.

Otherwise for pure aim the mouse might be slightly superior, but not compared to a fast paced FPS where the mouse obviously dominates.

Joystick, pedals, throttle for me...

Mouse gives you absolute accuracy but joystick allows you to track better...

User.cfg settings must br configured or the joystick will be too slow

While I can fully appreciate the fun factor of using a joystick, I don't understand why some people insist on using it. After getting killed, I've seen some people who are obviously using a joystick and doing fine with it whereas with others it is quite painful.

For example, in the last match I played before searching for a post on this topic I watched someone, obviously using a joystick, do the following:

Fire an alpha into the ground in front of a target mech.

Overcorrect and fire LLas above the target mech.

Torso-twist nearly 45 degrees when the target started moving (max torso rotation from the mech he was in)...

...and fire off a salvo of missiles into a building. Seriously, what did that building ever do to you?

Guy ended the match with something like 75 damage done from a Stalker.

It isn't just him either. I've seen at least one person in every match on my team using a joystick setup. In the current state of the game, I can fully appreciate using a joystick for your leg movement, but unless you are *really* good with aiming a joystick, please stick with the mouse. While it may seem fun for you, the losses accrued because you can't effectively apply damage are getting annoying.

I wish more people would use joysticks (but on the other team from mine!) :P

Joystick since the first day it was supported. Using a logitech 3D Force Pro which comes with a great profiler.

The User.cfg file helps too. It's important to know that raising the Gain figure here makes the mech's axii respond faster when using a full swing of the stick and that raising Sensitivity causes the Joystick to respond more delicately to small stick movements. Gain and Sensitivity don't affect Turning yet. At present turn is either full on or off which is why many players can't make their Joystick work well enough right now. Analog Turning is coming as soon as they can work it in.

Nevertheless, I have adapted to what is available and I am scoring 2-4 kills in wins and 2-4 assists with a joystick. Usually in the top three players in wins. I know I couldn't do that with a Mouse+Keyboard. That's just me though, but Joystick is a solid Mech controller with a long history of success. Don't ever doubt it.

Can't really vote, because although I'm using KB&Mouse right now, it's only until PGI get's around to getting the x-axis working right. I invested in a logitech g940 hotas, which I'd be much happier on.
I realize that kb&m is quicker and more accurate, but it's also way to much for My two hands to do at once. Operating sensors, imagery, steering, gunnery, comms, etc would be a lot easier (for Me) if I could divide the workload between My arms, fingers, and feet.

So I'm on kb&m for the time being only.

Well excuuuusse meeee. I guess I'll take my 3-4 kills and 2-3 assists to the opposing team. You Mouse users are always running into walls and bumping into each other, blah blah blah. Well it makes as much sense as what you just said. The only drawback to Joystick use is the lack of Analog Turning at the moment, but you can adapt to that.

It's funny when I see Mouse users trying to line up a shot on me when I come around a corner at them. They invariably charge straight into me rather than circle strafing and aiming. It's the only way they can stop me from out-piloting them, but it offers no advantage to them.

I have to use a joystick, it's just in so much more comfortable of a location. And my rudder pedals want analog turning very badly. And it's lame that when I try to look around with my TrackIR, nothing happens.

It's so much fun I don't care if I'm worse with it than with a mouse, and you're not going to get better by not doing it. Also, it's good joystick practice for the gunnery, aerial refueling, and formation flying in other games.

S!

Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + CH ProPedals for me. Doing fine even tweaking was a pain in the butt. Give proper axis support + TrackIR for looking/aiming. The experience would be complete :P
