No, not the self-overheating type... the type that rushes straight into the enemy formation either because he didn't read the patch notes and tries to farm or is just plain stupid or inexperienced.

Just had a match on Caustic Valley or however that "hot" map is called. We were at one side of the caldera on the ridge and the other team was on the other side. Generally we held the caldera while they were ducking behind the ridge on their side. Now one Atlas of ours was headed straight for the other side, running directly into the enemy formation and did receive quite some attention from them. At the same time a Hunchback and me tried to flank and use this distraction to land a few hurting blows.

... however ... the rest of the team - amongst them at least two Atlasses and a Stalker - just stood back on our side of the caldera not doing a thing. I told them to not just stand there and got a snarky reply like "Yeah, just run straight into the enemy alone".

Now I'm not an expert and I understand the value in not throwing yourself into an unwinnable battle, even if it were to just help your comrade.... but what does standing around accomplish in that situation? Is it a good thing to just wait until they're finished with the suicider and come for you next? You'll be one mech behind by then...

I had similar situations like that a couple of times and I'm always somewhat baffled why the rest of the team doesn't just use this distraction to engage in force or flank the enemy or ... heck, just do something. That one guy rushing in is already lost - shouldn't you at least TRY to make the most out of a bad situation?

Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong... how's your experience with that kind of situation?

This is something that actually got fixed this patch; as newer players get their own mechs faster, you should see fewer suiciders.

It will only take time before they realise they are getting pitiful amounts of C-Bills/XP for doing this.

They might get one or two target spotting bonuses but thats about it.

Yeah, I know that. You're still going to see one every now and then, though.

My post wasn't so much about how to prevent that from happening (you can't), but how do you deal with the situation once it IS happening. Like... ingame... tactically :P

I usually find them to be great distractions (as long as they survive long enough) and an ideal opportunity to get some SRMs into people's backs. However that doesn't really end well if I'm the only one trying to use this opportunity and the rest of the team just waits till the guy is dead and they can have a proper fight or something...

fixed.

There is only so much you can do in a situation like that. The other teammates that didn't follow up either weren't thinking or might have been rigged for long range distance (I know I don't charge in when I'm LRM boating but reposition).

Just have to move on the next game, the people not thinking are most likely just still learning. :P
