To be honest, with early acces and founders pack available in NA only, my hype lowered from 120% to 70-80%.
Talk about unfair advantage, meh.

IS BETA ONLY IN UNITED STATES????? ***

Not even joking, this has to be the 50th time I've seen this question.

There must be an ENTIRE generation who'd rather ask first than look first.

Hopefully you don't take any of this personally, but you have to understand how people feel when they see this question asked the umpteen billionth time all over the forums.

The worst part is... they're posting in the thread that contains the answers... they just need to take the time to read one single post... the first one...

I think half the fault here is that PGI did not word it as well, and secondarily, they did not clarify it in the original post, but in a subsequent post about Operation Clarification.

As I've always said, online, every chance for communication is a chance for mis-communication.

There was a Twitter post that got pretty mouthy and, like many posters, went off the assumption first rather than simply asking for clarification.

What kind of information were you looking for, that wasn't covered in the announcement?

Specifically:
  • What Battlemech Models are available?
  • Whether they can be altered in MechLab?
  • Define 'Custom' - does that mean its an Original Developer Design or a Custom Skin etc.
  • When would the Founders Battlemech be selection if Selection is available?
  • Are they accessable immediately (for new players) and are they useful / viable at advanced gameplay stages (highly developed pilots: Multiple Unlocks, fully defined Skill tree etc.)?

Quite simply I've seen stuff like this before that has turned out to be nice Starter Equipment and essentially useless after 2 hours.

Piranha has stated this won't be Pay2Win...

Actually an XP Booster is technically a 'Pay2Win' since a player that has it doesn't have to grind as much as someone who doesn't and therefore advances or progresses through the game faster. However its an example of a Pay2Win that doesn't break Fairplay in this case since the person that advances faster won't necessarily Learn how to play as well while someone who hasn't accelerated the advancement will have (often Painfully) learned how to play better.

Since the Game is more Skill based apparently based on what they are showing & saying, XP boosters and the like are likely to tick off endgame players that find a lot of players at endgame that aren't really capable of playing at that level [hypothetical]. Now if they sell equipment that statistically is superior to whats available to Free2Play then it becomes a Fairplay Breaking Pay2Win.

However, I expect most will be customisation since there is plenty of room for it and that typically can avoid the negative Pay2Win environment. As I've stated in other Free2Play game where I was a free player 'My job here is to get ganked by the players Paying to Win, My bad if I fail' and I might also add that I had a tendecy to fail a lot - which ticked off those players paying to win and ,Believe it or not, I actually felt sympathy for them {except for the Real Jerks} because they were paying and keeping the game going and quite simply should be having "FUN". Its just not in my nature to hold back and I typically don't realise I'm winning til I'm at a point where holding back would be obvious. My goal in the game isn't necessarily to 'Win' but to have fun and I found that Losing Glamorously is actually a lot of fun, often more than a cheap victory but thats just my personal feelings on it. I'm also respectful of others players so I typically don't hold back in like Tournaments, Ranked matches and the like unless I'm supposed to.

Truth is, I imagine Pay2Win will be necessary to maintain the game. Just hope its a tolerable Pay2Win.

i agree with you except on one thing... players cant be ticked of at other players who advance faster toward end game as there is NO end game.

Besides of that, there is going to be soem kind of match making mechanic. So my guess would be that this mechanic also takes levels into account. So a level 5 propably doesn't need to worry that a level 10 has "bought" his way up with a booster because he won't be playing (much) with him.

Other Level 10s who have played the game "normally" on the other hand could then be in a favourable position because they have palyed much more games then the boosted player and thus are propably more skilled.

I pretty much agree with your post. I've been playing World of Tanks since beta and they have done a good job balancing it. Its up to everyone to play and advance as much as they're life circumstances allow and pay if they want. I like the idea of not having a huge advantage with premium items.

I too a lot of times have more fun losing gloriously than winning cheaply. And I usually target the premium vehicles first - there is a strange satisfaction to destroying them. ;)

Although none of the Operation:Inception mechs appeal to me I will probably get one just to support the developers.

Looking forward to this for a long time!

just noticed LOL that if you buy the $60 Elite Founders pack and take advantage of the 2 month premium subscription, you are basically getting a double C-Bill bonus. As long as you play in your Founder Mech you get the bonus XP and C-Bills per match BUT if you play under the premium subscription it says you gain C-Bills faster so this is basically a double bonus on the C-Bills.
