Clan Mechs Could Be More Balanced Than We Think (Discussion)

"Madness!" you say?
"Why would anyone use IS mechs anymore?" you say?
Good question!
Lets remember how advanced these mechs are, and assume the inner sphere will not have the capability to manufacture them. This means that complete rebuilds and refits like Endo steel Double heatsinks and FF armor would be incredibly difficult, impossible even, for a small merc corp.
So when you buy that fancy clan mech you can put any type of weapon where you want but all that fancy framework that takes up so many crit spaces aint goin nowhere. For the sake of customization engines should be allowed to be swapped (If need be keep them XL if it stocks one or standard if its native to that).
While you cant change what weapon types your IS mech can mount, we have the capability to rebuild and refit it to your needs giving the IS mechs a niche of their own and not necessarily worse than clan mechs being able to mount clan weapons and some clan equipment lets face it clan tech is going to be better theres no doubt about that but clan dbl HS with IS weapons means youre firing all day lol.
how would you guys balance clan v IS?

Thats the balance... I don't see many people forking out 24,233,124 C-bills for a Mad Cat. Let alone 3 of it to bring it to master. All of clan tech are expensive as hell to buy and maintain. If the Devs re-introduce rearm repair, which I think very likely, that cost alone would make most rounds played in vain. Also, lets not forget that in mechwarrior, the fan fare factor is very strong. Given the choice, most serious players would still stick to their "favorite" mech after the novelty of the clan mechs wear out.

This would be ideal imo but it would have to be class/BV otherwise you get atlases with IS tech against a whole bunch of Stormcrows lol

lol as weve seen more people shift to the most optimal build than the diehards (like me) who go for aesthetics or nostalgia
Idk about rnr doing enough to balance it if the costs are so prohibitive its going to make it a gold ammo situation which pgi seems to be trying to step away from I think the bv balance is probably the most sensible

I also hope Clan players are heavily penalized for assists. Clan Warriors fight one on one. No assists or focus fire

Big ol THIS. There's is no other mathematical way to balance Clantech if it's somewhat true to canon.
hope theres more to it than that if the star fields a full compliment of Dire wolves (which they likely would knowing theyre at a number disadvantage) and the other team isnt knee deep in atlas/ highlanders thats a wrap

Yes, clantech in the setting makes a reasonable amount of sense. In a competitive 8vs8, arena shooter like we have now, it's a great way to obliterate any semblance of balance. I really really hope the Clan Invasion doesn't happen in-game for many many months (conservatively about a year), because the Devs needs to solve all kinds of combat system, economy and matchmaking issues before you want to throw yet another wrench into the machinery.

The thing is that Zellbrigen is only applied in battles versus worthy and honorable opponents.

An excellent point, because if there's one place that real P2W may rear it's head then that's Clantech.

It really does depend on if PGI goes for a money grab and lets people buy clan tech with Real money if you have a mixed lance you cant do an 8v8 and you cant really tell people their team ALL has to use clan tech or none of them can
(Edit: ******* their and theyre lol what the hell is my problem today?)
