although i was just recently reading on the forums that the Clans are to make an appearance.
so, Im totally excited for this, but how is it going to impact gameplay?
i mean, Clan mechs/tech are going to be released, so will everyone just be racing to make sure they all stay ahead of each other tech wise? and then everyone will just be using Clan tech?
or will their be sweet game modes specifically tailored to be Inner Sphere Vs Clan Match ups??

We'll see... its a delicate thing and in no way will anyone have an answer now.

There was the humiliating defeat of the Smoke Jaguars and Nova Cats at Luthien in January 3052, so Draconis combine got some tech there, and the reverse-engineering of Clan tech started around that time. But it still took a couple years for that to bear fruit, most of the IS omni-tech aand advanced equipment only starts appearing around 3055.

If it takes that long to add the old weapons this will get very stale.

Not only that, I can't think of which type of whining will be worse, the people whining about Clan tech being too OP, or the people who want to put Clan tech in their cool IS mechs.

The worst whining will come from people with OP clantech claiming its not powerful enough.

The knowledge that you will ALWAYS be outnumbered would stymie (but not completely eliminate) the tech-freaks who only want the powerful weapons without any regard to the lore or feel of the clans, while preserving not only the Clan system of 5's, but the Clan spirit of pushing yourself against greater numbers in a bid for victory. There are essentially three groups of pro-Clanners: Those who want the big guns, those who like the aesthetics of the tech, and those who relate to the Clans themselves.
Some mixing and bleed-over exists. Knowing you will always fight at a numerical disadvantage should prove a good enough inhibition to those who are only the first and second to, at the very least, make them sit and think about whether or not it is worth it to them. Of course, this is all how my internal theorization of it works out, and may not at all be near what gets implemented.

I'd go with a 5v8 Clan-IS matches and that might not even be fair, given the BV can sometimes be more than twice in difference. It might work if the last 3 slots allow the IS team to heavily out-ton the Clan team. This is assuming all damage and equipment converts like the TT and does like 50% more and weights 50% less (in certain cases).
They talked about Zellbrigen, but not being able to target another mech unless you are shot by your non-primary target might be too restrictive. Either that or they add a Zellbrigen bonus to earnings and you'd earn crap for not following it.

If ECM survives in its current form then at least you won't have to worry about point-blank fired clan LRMs that weigh half the tonnage of IS LRMs.
