Really liked the concept art and am looking forward to the in-game model.
But not a fan of playing with lights, so would prefer more med/heavy class mechs in-game

The spider will be my light mech of choice when it arrives (to replace my commando). I just like the look and feel of them better than the jenners and ravens (although the ravens are pretty nice).

I do hope they give use some good hardpoints, and fix the JJ issues.

Can't say I'm keen on it either. From basic stats it's very limited for firepower, we'll see if the hardpoints are even semi-decent on it for any variants (will someone stick a gauss in the MG slot for it :) ). As for speed it should be really quick but current netcode will limit it and jump jets aren't great for a bonus on it either.

Considering the above issues it does seem a wierd choice of mech for the game.

Too weapon limited for my tastes.

To the OP - problem is that ECM in this game is already angel ECM, which it shouldn't be. Also, until they change jump jets to work like in tabletop, the jumping advantage the mech has is negated - so what's the point?

I'm crossing my fingers to have it be my first - and only - Light. But given all the issues at the moment, as much as I'm excited for it, it's mostly hype. I might end up keeping NO Light whatsoever in the end! Still, I'm hoping it will turn out ok.

So ultimatly, perhaps the ECM right now will be reserved to Spiders (and whichever other Mechs out there). The thing is, I'm not sure it would fit in the timeline. Aside from that, the moment the current ECM is fixed to how it should be perhaps it'll be alright for everyone.

Doesn't seem to have a lot of differences in it's variants and at 30 tons there isn't a lot you can put on them. It's jump factor in TT is where their strength lies and I just don't see that translating into MWO very well. I'd rather have a Panther.

It'll be interesting to see what hardpoints it gets, the variants they announced doesn't come with more than two (or three in the case of the 5K) hardpoints.

But with Endo Steel and XL engines you can make pretty much any of the "7" or "8" variants as well, and if they give us some more hardpoints to play with, who knows what we'll come up with.

Finally, both the Flamer and the MG are due for buffs, as is the netcode (and jump jets will hopefully get a buff as well now that they're working as they should).

Let's hope those changes all come in with the Spider on Jan 15th :P

Well, we already know that the 5D is going to have at least two energy hardpoints, one in the arm, and another in the torso. Expect to see 5D PPC/Large Laser snipers, which is a potentially nice use for them. If the Spiders get ECM, some of these variants will be very useful and fun to play. If they don't get ECM, then... well no amount of jump jets or 140km/h capped speed is going to save your 30 ton mech from a barrage of Streaks from a Raven or Commando.

I'm really hoping that the mech is viable, it's got a lot of class, and was a canon special forces mech, which should be justification enough for the ECM considering that much less substantial reasoning was used to give ECM to the Atlas.

I think a new breed of lag issues will surface once the Spiders drop by haha, but I'm mostly hoping for the jumpjets to function properly for the Spiders by the time they come out.

The firepower and rather underwhelming stats on display now aren't likely to draw much attention, but the Spider has always been one of those highly-underestimated 'mechs in both the Battletech miniatures game and the Battletech universe. I'm holding out hope for the Spider chassis, might even replace my old Commando with it.

i dont like this trade of hardpoints for jumpjets.
they need to have more hardpoints, not flying around at low speed. it's not a freaking plane

I thought someone already posted the Hardpoints....

SDK-5V - 2 Energy (CT) ECM capable
SDK-5D -1 Energy (CT) 2 Energy ( RA)
SDK-5K - 1 Energy (CT) 4 Ballistic (2 RA, 2 LA)

I'll see if I can find where I read that, for all i know that could be speculation.

If those are the acutal hard point Carrioncrows, then it will be a nice mech to play with.
And if it is cheap as f**k as i predict it will be, i might get me all 3 to master them.

God i need more mechbays (again).

Please cite your source of the hardpoints. I've been looking all over for them.
