Take some game mods. Technically, they already have an engine in that regard, just like PGI does. And I've seen small independent groups put together fantastic projects in a year (PGI is not as small as you might think). And I live with a person who's been involved with game development studios. But again, I'm not a developer and I'm in a different kind of field, although I've had the opportunity to enjoy some insights.

I'm every bit as willing to defend PGI as the next person, but that's not going to stop me for calling them out on what I believe to be faults. I just want the game to succeed like most of us here and that's why I'm a Founder. Isn't that why you're a Founder? I'm not unreasonable. Or at least, as unreasonable as some people. I'm objective, perhaps. "Call me out" for being an "entitled" or whatever, a "bser", do what you like, if it makes you feel better.

I'm not going to continue this. I prefer not having a dev's thread being fouled like this. Merry Christmas, PGI, take your deserved break.

Come quite some way in a year, but at the same time I've seen individuals get more than this done in a year.

That's the bs I'm calling you out on.

No you can not compare mod making to game making as someone have done all the heavy lifting already like building and de-bugging the engine (it is not just plug and play you know) and most indie projects tend to stay away from FPS games of the calibre of MWO

I get your point, but you are working from faulty logic.

I'm sleepy and misplacing my facts, I'll admit it, I was probably thinking of a project that was not related to game development. But what I will stand by is the fact that I've seen smaller studios than PGI put out more polished work in the span of a year. Or are you saying that PGI hasn't come quite far in the last year?

Now that i can agree with you on, I have seen small studios stamp out really brilliant stuff in a very short amount of time. But i still think that PGI have done a amazing job with the game so far and if they continue at this pace we will have a very good game in a year,

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that the development team has embraced some aspects of agile software development, like iterative releases, and have only partially (or not at all) embraced equally important aspects like refactoring and automated testing. PGI could save themselves a lot of future heartache and grief if they took a month off of new features and went through and refactored all their problematic code and wrote automated tests for every piece.

It can be hard to sell this to management, since management always wants a band-aid and a new feature, and fixing code smell looks like "doing nothing" to upper management, but it is extremely important.

I think memory leak and 4 FPS are the same thing. Once you play 5-20 games, you can see memory going up and up and eventually (with client resets) you get the 4 FPS
