I got the founders mech and the DC and I need to get my third. Anyone got any advice on which one to get? Im pretty sure I dont want the K (xl engine yuck). I got the awesomes mastered working on the atlas now.

You can take the K model, swap out the xl for a standard, and then run with dual AMS. It helps against the tag ECM counter, if you team with a Mech that uses ECM. It isn't a perfect solution, but one that I saw work recently.

Since the K and Rs are your only choices,I'd go with the K and put a standard engine in it(keep the Xl for something else though)

If you upgrade to double heatsinks, you can keep all the weapons and have a half ton remaining for same heat efficiency.

I didn't like the look of the hardpoints on the K so I went with the RS. 4 arm mounted laser hardpoints are nice.

Good choice. The RS is probably the best kept secret of the atlases. Mount 4 large lasers and a nice autocannon or the gauss in that, then lay down a continuous stream of hurt.

If you go with the K, the only real difference you'll have with it compared to the D is the double AMS (which is nice to have against teams with LRMs, and your team mates will appreciate the extra coverage). The RS is really interesting because it swaps the two chest energy hard points for two arm energy hard points. To my knowledge the RS is the only 'Mech that can fit 4x PPCs/ERPPCs (which let me tell you can HURT). Alternatively you go the 4x Large Laser build.

You do have a good idea with not putting a XL engine in an assault 'Mech (why make an assault Mech easier to kill?).

It comes down to what you want to do with it. The RS allows for some more energy heavy builds, while the K gives you (and your team) an extra AMS slot providing a better counter to LRMs.

RS all the way.
4 Arm lasers can be nasty.

Also the only special thing on the K over the D is the extra AMS, which isn't really much use if you understand what the word "cover" means.

The Stalker can also do the same (As can a couple of the Cataphracts and the K2, and lots of medium mechs including the Cicada), and it's probably better with PPC/ERPPC due to the way the arms are mounted.
RS beats out most of the others for Quad Large Laser though.

I went with the RS, 2 LRM 15's, 2 med lasers, AMS and an AC/10, in chain fire puts out a constant stream of LRM's and can fight off those pesky lites. Very good in a support role.

DDC, RS and D are the only ones worth having.

The K comes with an XL (you don't want it) and dual AMS. that extra AMS apparently being worth more than another weapon hardpoint.

RS has the better controlled burst damage, especially at range with 4 larges don't bother with ER.

scouts will feel the pain even more when they approach you and you'll get better kiting.

To me, it depends on what you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to lead a Lance of brawlers to the front line, then the K with its extra AMS and customizable support/brawler build would be a good choice. If you are wanting to lone-wolf it in a PUG match or work with a team which has plenty of other support mechs, then the RS brawler will definitely put the hurt on your enemy with its arm energy hardpoints.

Either way, you really can't go wrong as long as you have a build which works for you.
