With ECM the game is a brawl fest no point in trying to run LRM's or any missle boats. I thought missles were fine. One you needed LOS from you or someone on your team, two you should have a scout tag them, and then three you make it rain. Now you just run ECM run though the middle and brawl. Game is real bad and has no tactics, too Call of Dooty esk for me now. I wanted a mech sim. If I want arcade I'll go play Hawken or Reign of Thunder.

OK, so this is happening ALL the time to me. I have had more than one occurrence of dropping in and having someone take one of the arms off my cataphract or wreck the rear torso of my atlas. My normal response is to say "good job <insert pilot name> for wrecking my <insert my damage>" over team chat and respond in kind, which tends to include at least two large lasers and an AC/20.

I refuse to treat some trigger happy sod at launch with any kind of civility.

As for team damage during matches, It seems about normal, people try to shoot in a tight space and you get rakes with a laser. I will admit I do this from time to tight, but no more than a point or two of damage gets through before I pull the laser away to avoid further damage.

There needs to be - 5 x damage done to friendlies to exp.

At the moment people just circle straight in front of you to try and get the kill shot, or "blat" their weapons at the start of match and wack you in the back.

I dunno, and this is only anecdotal first hand experience, but it *seems* to me that in the past 2 weeks or so friendly fire has just gone crazy.

Did we get an influx of wild-eyed trigger-happy ******* with no fire control discipline, or am I seeing things?

I've been getting hit by alpha strikes to the back at the starts of matches lately.

Do they keep logs and such of these games? I ask because I was wondering if they can "overturn" a teamkilling penalty if they check the game and see that the guy who got killed was shooting all his teammates and had to be put down....

I asked everyone to report this one guy who started the game by hitting me twice, then opened fire on the rest of our team, but I didn't catch his name (I was sleep deprived and just hit "print screen", forgetting that since MWO was in fullscreen mode, all I'd get is a solid black image) and I've never run into anyone so casual and nonchalant about being a ****. Still, even if they can't/won't reverse the penalties, I'm glad I was the one whose volley put an end to his little tantrum.

I play a Centurion so I expect a certian amount of FF as darting in and out of the enemy harrasing them to death is my main job, drawing fire so our assault/heavys can kick there buttox, You also get the Lag shots when someone drops off a hill on you rubberbanding back and fourth into your fire, no big deal they get a couple points of Hamer time.

What I find unforgivable is the Alpha stike to the core and a few shots to the legs crippling you right at spawn. Friendly fire is going to be a part of the Game however even a 10 ~ 15 second period directly after the drop where FF is punishable by EJECT from Match and -20 GXP. I would pay good MC to see this implemented.

For now I suggest someone start a thread to post names of people who issued them serious FF at spawn with significant damage.

I've seen a rise in people running in front of your shots to get the kills, seems to be because rewards are based on this now. However I don't know why they are so keen as the payouts are higher on the assists than the kills, you don't get to admire you K/D as much from lots of assists I suppose.

I find I need to pull shots a lot as LB10's and SRM's don't make the best weapons when everyone is bunched up close enough to be dating :( . Even a mistimed gauss or PPC is going to ruin someones day.

On the reverse I do try and use the enemy mechs to intercept some of the incoming fire at me, not always very successfully I'd have to say :P

Yes, I have the same impression than you.
Possible reasons:
1.) ECM...
2.) Night maps: They are somewhat confusing.
3.) No repair costs: Fire away. Now, it's not that big a deal if you get a little damage or even get shot down at the end of a round.
4.) No ammo costs: The same as 3.). If you are in doubt, you just take the shot. Even if you have a chance of missing / hitting a friend, it won't hurt you.
5.) Inexperienced players: I often get the impression, that the average experience of the playerbase lowered somewhat during the last few days. I see a lot more LRM-melee-fights, not locking onto a target, heat-shotdowns, firing LRMs into a hill, running into team-mates, or just shooting at the wrong targets during perfect sight conditions, etc... than before.
6.) Heavier mechs than before: With the cadett bonus and removal of repair costs, heavier mechs are a lot more attractive than before. More heavily armed mechs = more shooting around = more FF.
7.) More bugs: In the last few weeks, the number of "new" bugs ingame somewhat increased as far as I can tell. No radar, no target HUD, no HUD at all, yellow screen, etc... all those don't help with identifying a hostile target.

Same thing I experienced, some crazy dudes will rush in between me and my dying target trying to steal the kill and then I will TK that guy's armorless back... if you intend to do something like that, make sure you max out your rear armor.

What did you expect when ECMs are jamming everyone and everyone fights in a nice big backally brawl like a mob during fightclub night? Tactical play is gone and long range combat is largely pointless now.

You call it "long range combat" I call it "peekaboo I locked on to you".

I do get lasered a bit more often than I used to. People becoming more careless, I suppose.

I often see people firing for no reason at the start of a match. Maybe Parkinson's is more common than I thought? It can't be that hard *not* to push a button.

One time I accidentally teamkilled someone because my Gauss shot just didn't come out until they'd moved between me and my target. I should have just rolled my eyes at the random firing delay and moved to fire at the sky so I wouldn't hit anyone, but instead I was mentally yelling at my Gauss rifle to freakin' fire (usually that's what's supposed to happen when you pull the trigger). I chose to utlimately blame the firing delay, but I'll admit I could have avoided killing him if I'd disciplined my thoughts just a little bit more.

EDIT: Oh! And I remember spectating people who fired into medium-range brawls with LB10-Xes, usually hitting two opponents with one pellet each and one teammate with two pellets. It was truly a work of art.

I have notice many people getting in front of me while I am firing. I have blown whole sides off of friendly mechs because they stepped in front of me just as I pulled the trigger on dual ac/20 or 6 srm6. I tell them I am sorry, but really it is thier fault. I dont know why they just dont get a different angle on the same mech, but it happens. :(

It's irritating when you fire your lasers only for a split second for an assault to emerge from your cockpit and to have alpha'd the back of them. It's also really weird.

if I drill a friendly tough ****, complain to the Devs

I think the removal of R&R and more reward for kill assists is the culprit. Not to mention the holidays bringing more kiddies in who just want to blow sh*t up.

Actually, wouldn't this create for more tactical play if you have to recognize who is on your team, where the ECM mech is, and how to take it out?

That sounds more like people need to think to me.

No. Perhaps more challenging, but there is nothing tactical about fighting half blind. Thinking equates to hesitation in the middle of a skirmish, and hesitation can mean life or death. A seasoned vet doesn't think in battle he just acts.

I have noticed it's much more common for people to be blindly running in between me and my target when I'm obviously firing.

I assume it's for 2 reasons:

1. They want those sweet, sweet increased damage payouts and don't care what they have to do to get them.

2. No repair costs to make them think twice about whether it's worth it.

This is indeed very common, but your reasons are flawed. People run in front of you just because they're not thinking at all. The simplest explanation for this is that they're just not thinking about how stupid it'd be to walk into your field of fire.

Never attribute to malice what you can to stupidity. Stupidity is much more common.

Seriously, though, other than how people seem to be obsessed with firing at random at the start of a match. I've seen quite a few single strikes into the back of the mech spawning in front of them. The same thing applies here, though: While I'm sure some people are actually being asshats, I think most are just twitchy and stupid.

The real reason for the increase in FF though? 99% due to total lack of IFF and any identifying marks. Particularly in pugs, you may not even see friendly lights should they spawn outside of LOS and tear off right away), and as unless custom painted, a given mech is going to look identical to another of it's variant (and very close to other variants of the same chassis) so there's absolutely no way to tell which is friend or foe.

I have no problems with ECM's balance with regards to LRM's, but the removal of IFF is a serious problem. Your only real option is to wait and see if the mech fires at you first (but it may be a friendly that's confused by lack of IFF!).. and even then, you're giving the enemy mech a huge, huge advantage by waiting and letting it line up a good first shot.

How? How should you know who is on your team, when you may have never even seen their mech, AND when their mech may look completely identical to multiple mechs on the enemy team?

A brawl is going on. There are 4 Cat K2's involved. Which 2 are the friendly mechs? They look identical.

Kill the lagshielded ECM? In your Stalker?

They absolutely need to remove the IFF negating aspect of ECM.

Anyone play Americas army when it first came out, if you did enough friendly fire you would go back in Rank,I'd think loosing your enhance points towards Elite would be good its easy to identify friendlies and watch your Teamamtes lane for fire.Or make C bill-deduction. no Cbills no repair Make it harsh
