I encountered the strangest thing at the tail end of a match a few moments ago. Only two enemy Mechs were still alive, both were within my field of vision and busy fighting the rest of my team, when suddenly my right arm, right torso, and right leg exploded without warning or shot on anyone's part. Not only did all three parts explode simultaneously, the indicator of my armor and structure's status showed the structures as blank and destroyed yet with a yellow border of armor still surrounding it. I'm at a loss as to why it happened.

Has anyone else experienced this bug?

Hypothesis: You were overheating and overrode. This will destroy your mech from the inside out.

Can you only do a certain number in a match? I don't recall overriding at the time, but I was running my Awesome with 3 PPC's and 2 Large Lasers, so I certainly do it a lot. That's odd, I've never experienced that before.

If you overheat, override, and overheat again before dropping to a certain level (50%?) you'll instantly die. At least that's been my experience.

As for spontaneously losing arms... that I don't know.

I tried to screenshot it but the game ended just as I exploded, was too busy trying to figure out what the heck happened I guess. I know that I've done overrides before, sometimes multiple in a row, but I've never had it deal catastrophic damage in this way. From what I've been reading around the forums it seems to be a part of the override system, but most people report that a catastrophic override results in death, not loss of limbs. I also know I've alphaed, shut down, overrode, alphaed, and then shut down again without destroying myself, so I'm still kind of confused.

Guess I'll just have to be a little more disciplined.

Sometimes overriding after shutting down 'sticks' and the next time your heat goes up it doesn't shut down automatically. I notice this especially in my HBK-4P. If you don't shut down manually when this happens, body parts start exploding and you die.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I guess the lesson here is overriding can be useful when used right, but if abused will abuse you right back, haha.
