I suggest you stick as a Lone Wolf, then. It'll probably suit you. All the nations in BattleTech have soldiers that fight for their nation or fight for their fellow soldiers. Contemporary U.S. is like that, too. Not many fight for the sake of fighting. Most fight for a cause. The only code that a Lone Wolf follows is whatever he or she gives oneself. The same can be applied to mercenaries, but there may be a mercenary code for the particular mercenary unit (e.g. the Gray Death Legion follows a set of usual codes).

By the way, Kuritans and Capellans both look disdainfully at dishonor. You'll probably end up dead in either if you dishonor either of them. The Federated Suns has been known to disown and exile a citizen that dishonored Hanse (Justin Xiang Allard). Katherine Steiner has allowed schemers and assassins to be unscathed as long as there isn't any viable evidence. You might consider that to be a good place if you plan on taking advantage of your nation. There's not much to say about the Free Worlds League because of its psuedo-federal-confederacy structure. The Rasalhague doesn't have much written about it, but the people and the forumers that are sticking with the FRR seem to be a very proud people.

Liao commanders have the most power in their hands (not like Steiner social commanders) for the whole Inner Sphere. We do anything to win and are the most elite of the Inner Sphere millitaries.

But if you wanted to join us even for something like sympathizing with the moves our nation has done and all fluff attached to it. You'd probably disagree with us and leave.

I didn't overcomplicate it, I looked at the house badges and I saw this one was purple and picked it.

Overthinking is not as much fun as it appears.

Elite in the sense that you got curb stomped by the Davions?

Also, there's no wrong way of playing. Whether you're a lone wolf, a mercenary, or a soldier for a particular nation; all can be played however you want it to. Aside from what the Faction list is telling you, you might want to check out the sides on Sarna.net for more information. It all depends on what you're aiming for.

Bah...only ideal everyone of the houses follows is their own greed . Life on the battlefield is the life for me , s***w house politics and their slogans that go down the drain the moment their is something to gain , i only need their money , booze and women and good comrades on my side when it counts , merc all the way.

Our warriors could easily steam roll anyone if we had teh numbers and equipment. The fact that we prevailed with 3 mech factories against enemies from all sides and then made a comeback big enough to make us the strongest nation in the Inner Sphere tells a lot. ;)

Any novel novel that suggests an elite "SAS-esque" unit like the Death Commandos can be beaten by hastily drawn militia just doesn't deserve my suspension of disbelief.

Also, is a house the same thing as a clan, because I here people say the Inner Sphere is consisting of clans and sometimes people say houses and im not sure if its the same thing or not.

Clans and Houses are not the same thing. The clans were formed by former Star League commander Alexander Kerensky (I think it was Alexander; Sarna is out of my reach right now) after he took over 50% of the original forces and jumped out of the Inner Sphere over 500 years ago. (The houses were around during the Star League, but were more political powers than actual factions.) Once they found a system they thought was suitable, they began rebuilding. Soon, they split into +10 clans and moved toward becoming a larger, more powerful version of the houses. Clans are known for have much more advanced tech than the houses, ex. the Blood Asp
The houses were around during the Star League, but were more political powers than actual factions.
So, no the Houses and Clans are not the same. They aren't even in the same region of space
