Post counts mean nothing. Most people with huge post counts only post fiiller in a desperate attempt to get noticed. I look for quality and humour over numbers any day of the week. I'd rather read one good post from a lurker than a 1000 posts of spammy fluff anytime.

Hey.. ! I resemble that remark.. :)

Actually some of us have just been here longer..

If there is even a remote chance that they will be hand picking people by activity and post count, i think they have been scouting for a long time in the past to see who are the ones that contribute by quality, not quantity.

I think it will be a combination of all the above.. I don't think post count will matter in the slightest.

But they may select some on what they have posted in regards to the game, beta, etc..

Mostly though I expect it will be more specific to hardware, region, etc..

Trust me I didn't come here and troll the forum since January just to get my post count up and get in a Beta, I did it because I have no life :D

After spending 8 months on some forums. Getting to know the univers, discussing different suggestions, answering a lot of questions, helping people out and as such, you will have high post count.

Having it doesn't mean I've been spamming LOL in trillions of topics just to boost my ego.

Too late had to have started a LONG time ago.. -_-

There are certain forum members who feel they can still catch up if you pay attention to who the top 20 posters are every day

I wish PGI had made a statement that spamming the forums will not earn you Beta access...no one should ever make up 6%+ of the daily forum traffic...that's insane

Adridos you don't fall into the above category due to your long history on the forums. I still believe you and Aegis are in an arms race for top of the forums though lol

I will just be very happy to start playing the game, closed beta access earlier or later, don't matter... I have some things I can do in the meantime, not anything as cool as MW:O, but I can be patient for such a great game, especially when I have been patient for near a decade already anyway...

Being verbose or even well loved is no guarantee. Above all things, having integrity and good communication and technical skills is of greater importance. If selections were made based on those things (knowledge of the game and computer systems and the ability to communicate technically and effectively), the field would be very small indeed.

We have the good fortune of random selection from what I read. Even the most mouse-like and droll savants will have a crack at the beta, based on little more than a flip of the coin,a roll of the dice, or a turn of the wheel.

Ladies and Gentlemen.. dyin' times here...

Same here.. :o

I have even recently been down to as few as 0 posts in a given day.. :D

That said, I do think anyone with 300+ posts in the Ponie thread should be banned from Beta, as they are obviously just looking for post count, and have no useful purpose in these forums. :P

I think lots of people forget (or maybe don't know) that an NDA doesnt stop you from admiting that you are participating in beta. It only prvents you from discussing the things you do/see in beta!

Actually, from past experience, some DNAs will require you not to inform anyone that your in the closed beta(or alpha if that was the case)and some will not care...

I've been under NDAs at a couple point, for closed betas of completely unrelated games (Geneforge 5, from Spiderweb Software and SW:TOR). They've both since expired, so I can speak freely now :o

The Geneforge one was a pretty loose one, all told. I could tell people about the game, but I couldn't reveal anything other than stuff released by the devs to the public. So no details, no screenies, stuff like that. There wasn't much hype, so the company wasn't really worried about stuff leaking.

On the other hand... All I cold say about TOR is that a.) there was a game called Star Wars: The Old Republic and b.) I was in a beta for it. Pretty strict.

Although Paul did post here mentioning that if someone said they were in the beta, they broke their NDA so I guess the MW:O ones are pretty strict. Which would mean the theory about tracking post counts might work, because if it's as strict as TOR's then the testers wont even be able to repeat confirmed information... which pretty much throws out any discussion of the game. Perhaps also monitor where they're posting: If they suddenly switch from game mechanic discussion to off-topic stuff like discussing the tabletop, that might be an indicator of betadom.

If there is any selection criteria, I would think the devs would want to see the game performance on lower-end computers to begin with. Granted, I doubt everyone with slower/older computers gets in first, but I would want to see how the game is handled with the minimum first, because that would provide more information than someone's several thousand dollar computer which runs the program without a problem.

My computer is currently slower/older so I really think they should start invites there. :-) I was going to build a new one but bought a house. I'll get a new one this year. Wife already OKd a $3000 budget for it. :-)

I highly doubt that Post-Count, alone, would get you bumped up the list for a personal Closed Beta invite. Also, I hope that Post-Count does not bump you up the list for getting chosen by the automated system (assuming they utilize some sort of automated system). I believe that either of those situations would encourage forum spam.

I think forum post Content would be a better indicator or whether or not you'll be in contention for a personal invite, however even then it's just a forum. I, as a guy who sauntered into the forums and just started yaking everyone's ear off, do not "expect" in any way to receive a personal invite despite my forum contributions. I don't know anyone at PGI, I'm not a Community Moderator that's been personally chatting with the game staff on a regular basis, I'm not a long-standing member of the BattleTech comminuty... I'm just a paranoid scientist with a sense of humor. That would be awesome if I got an invite, but I "expect" to start playing MW:O sometime in July.

I did get my name chosen from a hat to be down on the ice with the announcers and "formally" commence the Ice Capades once, when I was like 6, though. That was pretty cool.

Hardly. I'm not in for obvious reasons, but people like CoffiNail probably didn't get an invite, too. :P

Not necessarily.. I am sure I could be in the Beta and not talk about it and still mess with people :P
