Voted stalker because I have 3 Awesomes!
Everyone says that the stalker has more armour; but this is only the case if you upgrade it. The stock armour values are actually lower than the awesome. That, and low turning speed mean if you get the jump on one, more than likely it'll go down.

Happily, this happens quite a lot.

This was done with my most fav build: An AWS-8R with 4 SRM6, 2LL & 1ML + AMS with Endo-Steel
I bought a Stalker 5f and can't build the exact same build without sacrificing either heat or armor.
Plus the torso twist on my Stalker is full or crap. I know there is another variant which has a better twist but unfortunately I only had 10 million c-bills and I bought the 5f. I don't have another 10 mill nor do we have a testing room to try the mechs first otherwise I would have bought the other variant.
The only good build I was able to get with the Stalker was one with 1ERLL & 4LL + Endo while removing DHS.
I voted Awesome.

On my STK-5M, I have
Engine 255
18 Double Heat Ssnks
3 x Large Lasers
2 x Medium Lasers
1 x LRM-5
1 x LRM-15
3 tons LRM Ammo
2 Streak SRM-2
1 ton SSRM Ammo
If I want a similar loadout on the AWS-9M Awesome, I get this
Engine 240
18 Double Heat Sinks
3 x Large Lasers
1 x Medium Laser
1 x LRM-15
3 tons LRM Ammo
2 Streak SRM-2
1 ton SSRM Ammo
These both provide LRM ranged support to soften up enemy 'Mechs while still having decent short range abilities for when you have to close with other 'Mechs. The SSRMs help to scare off Light 'Mechs as that seems to be the only weapon to easily beat the Lag shield and the Medium Laser(s) are the short range weapons when the SSRMs are blocked by ECM.
Now, the AWS-9M can also change up its weapons load easily too. When I want to go for more speed, this is what I pack it with
Engine 320
19 Double Heat Sinks
4 x Large Lasers
1 x Medium Laser
The biggest reason I like these 2 'Mechs is because of the ability to mount Center Torso weapons and additionally, a Head weapon on the Awesome. With both, it seems like the Left and Right Torsos get blown away quickly, so having Center Torso weaponry gives you a bit longer on survivability or at least lets you deal a little bit more damage.
That being said, I still like the STK-5M a bit more due to having a couple of extra weapons and being able to mount a Large Laser in the Center Torso, based on my builds.

27 external std heatsink
5medlasers
2med pulse lasers
standard 290 engine
armour in full with 14 at the rear side torsos and 18 at the rear ct. 82 at the front ct and 54 for the front side torsos.
it takes time to cut'em down but it's a lot of fun and takes some piloting to get the drop on close range mechs.

stalkers although the side profile is poor and you have to face the target as the arms can't swivel you can make up for it with more speed.bingo you've got yourself the ultimate mobile turret. the awesome? it has arms that move about for a few odd lasers or a small missle pack but really that's doesn't make up for it's bad to little hardpoints. then it's profile is just as bad and worse of all it's on the front where the attacking is more likely. speed is the only way to get an advantage over stalkers and atlases and it's possible to stand toe to toe but honestly when i do i feel like popeye vs bluto and he stole my spinach! the challenge was nice but now taking so long to bring one down regardless if he's attacking or standing still {enough time for the cavelry to get you} is just plain demoralising.
as soon as i have the money i'm getting into stalkers, awesomes whether they be snipers, brawlers, shot guns {srm boats} lrm boats are really just 2nd class citizens so please i wanna hear what other awesome pilots are doing. i hear the only good one's have xl engine's which kinda says death trap considering how big the torso's are.
please talk me out of it, say i'm not mad for spending 100's of hours on the awesome only to be rolled over by the stalker!
9M. I've played one for 100's of hours and I eat Stalkers for breakfast. No, scratch that, like granola snack bars. All day baby ALL DAY.
