It would seem most of the threads in general are by players who are either:
1. Protesting that their free status is not giving them equal perks to those players who are paying subs to the game (and have met good success in bending repair costs and trial mechs sofar)
2. Pickup-game players who do not want to invest in the community, nor want to join a community but are seeking a COD-lite experience of lone-wolf quick matches, whereby every mech can be a 1 man army. (and are protesting they are being limited by being a 1-man hero by ECW, team chat, lag, skilled players
3. Players not interested in communication or skill, and want a hawken-lite DPS fest, whereby who can get the best headshots fastest, wins the match.
A few communities have had this problem, including alot of media companies (newspapers) who have had their brand wrecked by this entitlement problem.
What would players think of erecting a paywall around the forums ? Why should PGI admins and the players who are actually winning (and enjoying the game in their own clan drops and tournaments through match-coordinated drops) be distracted by non-content generating trolls ?
Thoughts ?
Don't believe me ? Look at the top 20 threads and each of them were started by a non-active and/or non-purchased player.

Sounds too militant and elitist to me. If you don't like crap threads, don't read them or post in them. Putting the forums on lockdown just means that a different set of loud pinheads will run the top 20 posts.
There's a lot of freeplayer snark undercurrent in your post, not too fond of that either.

First off OP, you make "Free" Players sound like subhumans. They're players just like the rest of us.
Secondly, I see just as many "paid" players with stupid stuff they have to say on these forums [you included]
So, no, I'm against your "idea" and I hope that you wake up and understand you speak for no one in this post and have labeled yourself a target to many.
Have a happy new year.

You...are an *****.
I mean, there is just no other way to put it.
I am a pick up game player, and I have played with my Outfit in this game, but that doesnt mean I dont like the option to be able to pick up the game and have fun for a round or two before I go to work.
If the devs were smart they would make it viable to be a player who plays on his own, or runs in groups. If you cater to only one or the other you cut out everyone else who doesnt play in just one specific way.
And this game lives or dies on the free players you elitist **** If the devs cant find a way to turn those free players into paying players then the game dies. And telling them they are not good enough to be heard is not a way to do that.
I would rather see you lose your posting privileges.

Nothing really too militant about this post, it's actually a problem of stakeholders who are paying for a product to be delivered not seeing value anymore in being the server bill-payers vs. the pubs who are suggesting (and distracting) the developers to get their cake, and eat it too.
Forums are made to chat, but the forums are being perverted along with developer attention on non-issues or those not in line with PGI's budget or timeline structure to get a gold-box product out.
Go pull the world of Tanks premium section, EVE or Ultima forums (all long running games), and then compare it to the Tribes Ascend forums, now look at MWO. Where do you, as a player want or feel your issues are properly being addressed ?
At the moment, it does not appear that F2P's are either vested in the long run franchise development of this product or interested in becomming a respected community group. When this happened to other industries, or subsectors of the game community they were removed from the community behind a paywall. That is not really militancy or elitism, that is just good stakeholder relationship management. Why should a non-party interest have the same say in a project as the paying subscriber ? The answer, is they should not. Because they neither have the interest in participating or competing at the same level in the game as the paying player.
As mentioned in another thread, if F2P mobs want MWO to be a MMOFPS so badly, they should go elsewhere, perhaps to Tribes Ascend or Hawken. The game since August-2012 has only taken a turn for the worst since then, which is ironically when most of these players started to enter the game via sweepstakes and giveaway offers.

The game is "free to play", thus charging for the ability to post is most illogical. Also, a lot of users you think are free on here have actually bought MC. Just because you don't have the fancy icon doesn't mean you didn't put money into the machine.

This is a free-to-play game, which means that every single person who creates an account is a customer of PGI and IGP. This game is freely available to the whole of the public, and the game developers and publishers do not want to create a social rift intended specifically to segregate the customer base. the "free players" are very much a needed part for this enterprise to thrive in the environment for which it's being presented. More free players means more matches, shorter waiting periods, and (through the magic of spending) more paying players.
The idea being presented by the OP, while perfectly valid as their own opinion, is highly inflammatory and likely to generate hostile feelings. I am goig to move this over to the Suggestions forums, and also Lock it.
