So i just came back after a break from the game and I got a cataphract i have 3 ac5 and 3 med lasers. I can only alpha the lasers twice before a total blackout so please tell me how I am supposed to fight anything because if firing my own lasers without even the heat effects of another mech blinds me how am i supposed to do anything. I cant turn up brightness nor turn off the cockpit dimming feature ( which is by no stretch of the imagination useful anyway), so basically you dev have allowed a lack of basic features such as brightness adjustment and the ability to turn off the useless features you have like cockpit dimming to make a mech virtually blind on a daytime map (Forest Colony)from firing a set of wepons when not even in contact with the enemy. I cant fathom why you would think new content matters when the fuctionality of your game right now is total crap. I want new content too but make this playable, dimming features, fast mech lag shields and many other functionality improvements need to come before more content. Rant complete.

If anyone has a useful way around this it would be appreciated though i doubt any exists.

I havnt heard about anyone having this problem recently. About a month or two ago there was a bug with the glow on mechs being too bright but that has been fixed. I recommend you submit a support ticket and check the bug forums.

lol ya look at me forum raging, I know it was supposedly fixed and maybe its because on the phract there is a laser on each side of the head, which over triggers the dimmer, i dont know. il submit and see what happens its just very frustrating that bugs they say have been fixed are still thre 4fps, yellows screeen ect, and that manual adjustments have not been provided, honestly a toggle for the dimmer function would make me super happy, i would turn it off and never use it again. overbrightness was never a problem considering its on a screen and not actually a crazy glowing light in front of you, so the only disproportionate lighting is being caused by blacking out the cockpit.

yes the 'glow / darkening of everything else nearby' still exists. Seems a few target mechs cause this more than others, catapult, atlas and stalkers. This is not to say that all mechs dont cause it, but these are the ones that cause it the most.
Its not just lasers, but any weapon that 'hits' seems to cause this effect.

The maps this occurs on more than any others are - Forrest Colony (+snow version, altho not as bad) and River City.

I have submitted a ticket and rec'd a reply. Paraphrasing the answer they basically said it has been toned down and they will continue to tweak it until it gets the desired affect.

How to overcome it? I have found that in the middle of a battle when this starts to happen, i actually have to pull away from the fight for a moment or 3 and the darkness returns to normal altho the glow still exists. Sometimes pulling away is not an option and in that case I switch to thermal view for the duration of the 'furball'.

Best I can offer you as it is today.

they need to just give us a toggle then, because in my eyes it provieds zero benefit, the glowing mechs are 100 times better than a screen blackout. thats like saying well we know your going to pass cars going the other way on the road so in order to make it easier to not see their headlights so brightly we are going to make your windshield black.....nevermind that you now cannot see the road your driving on , or the other cars. I mean this is to the point it will actually make me alter my loadout to one i consider less viable just to avoid activating this "convenience" feature. thanks for the feedback tho.

and as a sidenote it isnt hits that are dimming me i can literally fire them into the sky and just the beam intensity blacks me out....

I run with 3 UAC5 and 2 Medium lasers (one either side of the cockpit) and have nothing like what your describing. Have you tried adjusting your monitor itself? The only time I find anything really bright is if I'm in heat or night vision and get smoked in the face with PPC's.

Im running it on my TV (as I always have with this game) however, i tried my other monitor and had the same effect. I typically notice zero to no dimmy but when i do both this mech with trip meds it blacks me out super fast, i can still usually focus on my target and get a kill but then i am totally blind to the rest of the battlefield and will get smoked by someone else. Have used large lasers in those same slots now that i think of it and not had nearly this big of a problem. not sure what variable is actually causing a problem.

Sorry, I had to laugh, not at you , but the response. never got that one. And it doesnt work as a 'fix', by the way, tried it. I suggest you reply to the ticket, if you can send them a screen shot and tell them the '.' button doesnt make any difference. Include your system specs and your latest DXDiag report.

Oh, and Large Lasers cause the same effect, just not as bad as the mediums. Even the medium pulse do not cause it as much. I do not know if its the duration or the intensity of the beam combined with the glow of the target. I wish I could nail it down and tell them (The Devs) what it is.

I do know that at one time, maybe in closed beta, they had it shut off and it was not a problem at all. Then the Cry engine 3.4 update and boom its back.

I have tried the game on ALL settings, low to Ultra high or very high (whatever the highest setting is) and its there. For the guys who have not seen it, well, great!. Yes I have 'fiddled' with the monitor, tried different monitors and as mentioned, the settings. No difference for me anyway.

yup this is all right on, and i just responded and sent and necesary logs and files, hopefully it gets tuned soon cause its looking like thats just the way it is until they make another pass. Still wishing they could just give a toggle switch for people who still experience this problem even though many, maybe even a majority, of the playber base does not experience it. Being able to turn that effect off would totally circumnavigate the issue for those who have no other way of getting rid of it, especially considering its an unneeded effect to begin with.
