Seriously though trees and foliage are currently only visually blocking things with no apparent collision model or any other properties.

We're piloting huge mechs that weigh tons and have enough firepower to level small towns, yet the trees in MWO are the last things standing in most matches.

Why can't we do the following:

- Walk through them/knock them down as a result (think driving through a field of corn in a truck, you leave a trail of flattened stalks!)

- Set them on fire (and have a rolling wall of fire if they're close together enough)

The second aspect could have actual uses - obscure Heat vision, increase heat of mechs caught in the fire etc.

I'm pretty sure it's not an engine limitation because even in Far Cry you could basically do the scene from Predator and chaingun deforest an area, and in Far Cry 2 get a bush fire going toasting everyone unfortunate to be caught in the firestorm...

They're looking at adding stuff to do with trees at some point. There is a single tree on river city you can knock over iirc, and the end plan is some combination of being able to knock them down and also set them on fire to flush out sniper/lrm mechs.

Not so much an engine limitation as an engine-user limitation. They're not as proficient with the FC engine as the guys who built said engine.

they have reduced a bunch of dynamic environment to help them identify other issues like crashing.

I yearn for the day when I can knock down those pesky trees and street lamps, I get so irritated stepping on a street lamp (and cars) in my Cicada and taking damage for it.

In addition it would be nice if water had an effect on mechs too, so strange running around in a commando on river city entirely submersed and having no movement penalties.
