Can you use GXP to unlock pilot skills? Like Advanced Zoom?
Do mechs have any pilot module slots to start or do you have to unlock a the 3rd tier module slot on a mech before you can use any.

Yes. You have to. 'Mech exp only applies to 'Mech efficiencies.

All 'Mechs (that I've seen) start with at least 1 module slot. The 3rd tier (Master) gives you +1 module slot.

The modules themselves are fairly expensive (2m+), but bear in mind you only need one - just pull it out of one mech and drop it in the next.

Is there a cost to remove them if you wanted to move it to another mech? Like how upgrades have a removal cost?

You can also use GXP to "power level" a mech. People will often buy MC to exchange mech XP to GXP and then level another variant to get elited/mastered faster.
Be aware, if an efficiency costs 750 XP, it will also cost 750 GXP. For some, this is too "expensive", but for others, it is the only way to really elite the mech you like the fastest.
Personally, I like the grind.

No. The cost is a one-time fee. Once you have it, you have it until you sell it by selling a mech and checking the sell all equipment check box. Do not forget to remove your modules if you are planning on doing this.
