8v8s are where true competition is at. Where are the teams? We queued up last night, and had several time-outs, and then we played a couple teams twice, and a third team once. We should be having many teams playing these. 4v4s are not that much fun are they?

The rest were too busy telling pugs to stop crying about premades.

I'd play 8 v 8 if our group could find 4-5 competent players that were on at the same time as the rest of us, who also don't always happen to be on at the same time everyday.

Good Posting about their e-skill on trial accounts.

We get enough people to run 1 8 man at a time, rarely 2. I haven't dropped in an 8-man for 5 days or so, but unless something has changed, all that's in an 8-man drop are Atlas DCs and Raven 3Ls. With maybe a third or forth chassis every 10th game or so. Really good games are so rare I just find it boring playing in 8 man.

How come, with all the skilled pro pilots doing 8s like announced on these forums for the last two months i cannot believe in what you are telling us. Why would they resort to cheese setups and play like that?

You made that up didnt you? I mean even if LRM/SSRM/A1/ECM/LAGSHIELDS etc. were unbalanced those pug clubbing overlords sure would adapt and overcome it with brilliant tactics, builds, communication, organization and SKILL...

Are you trying to tell us that most of them are just noobs getting carried by voice-com and 1-3 good players on the team?! Pahhhh, lies!

It's the holidays. Don't count of the 8v8 queue to pick up again until after new years. And even then, it's going to be a ghost town since it's seen as "not fun."

Played a couple of 8 mans last night. The Comstar EU server died around 1am GMT so moved to NA and had some there, but it was mainly 4 mans.

If 4 mans launched into the 8v8 games it would solve everyone's problem haha.

They dont like full on pro. They want partial pro, them tactical.. noobs flailing..

Reason you dont get balanced games in 8s is again a skill gap, perhaps even greater than that between the avg tester and the new player, is the gap between this games best, and the other testers that drop on pubs.

They do still get 8 man fights sometimes.. and i bet... are getting better for it. The skill gap widens.

We have to hold our breath, and wait for divine wisdom and intervention to bless us with guidance.

So Fruit Ninja, would you please bless us with your tempered guidance, direction, and wisdom. (Hopefully in a short mildly sarcastic and concise statement.)

Can't tell if sarcasm :/

Last time I played an evening of 8-mans, had a game where everyone was running ECM on both sides. Assault mode. Nobody engaged for 14 minutes. We won the game in the last 30 seconds only because the other team engaged first.

Yup, boring.

I've got tons of examples like this. I WISH I found these fun 8 mans everyone keeps talking about. Haven't seen them enough to make it worth waisting my time in an 8 man, playing 3 games an hour when maybe one game an evening is actually dynamic.

I played 14 games last night first couple as 4 till we got a full 8 then 1 4 man at the end as group broke up.

And weird as it sounds had a blast even if we could never beat the german guys we ran into 3 games in a row (came close but not quiet)

Also think only 1 game was a non mixed bag of mechs with all ECM Atlats and ravens the rest where a mix of all weight ranges

PS Respect to the german group (cant rem there names but ho hum old age and all ) tactics trumped ours every game but there's always next time

There's no benefit to 8v8. It's not worth coordinating a team.

This.

Without any sort of match maker most 8-man teams have evolved (or devolved?) Into 5-6 ECM-DDCs + 2-3 ECM-Raven. If you don't take something similar you generally don't stand a chance. If you do take something similar then the games become very monochromatic and rather boring.

Match maker of some sort definitely needs to be reinstated.

Like you get boating of weapons you get meta boating in teams which become very similar, I think it killed it off a bit. They need to bring out more of the information warfare modules just to spice things up a bit. Recent 8v8s I have seen more varied team builds (I even managed to run my 4G for a few)

Came up against a pure ER PPC team as well. once.

But it basically boils down to an assault lance with ECM and some lights with ECM, the counter to this? An assault lance with ECM and some lights with ECM. That's some rock paper scissors right there.

The biggest problem is just maintaining 8 man groups without someone dropping out.

We are looking for 8-mans for friendly scrimmages...

So far the only way we found to have 8-man drops is to organize it ourselves..

We can set drop config rules like 2A / 2H / 2M / 2L -- or even limit ECM per drop team.

We find it is a more balanced way to play - find us in the NGNG TS3 ARMD channel.

I can speak for my clan that most of our members are out for the holidays, so we usually don't have enough on for 8 person drops. In the TS servers, the problem is getting over the gap from 4-8. There are people out there that want to play on an 8 person team, but more importantly want to play (like me). I don't want to sit around and wait for the other 4 to show up.

Add to that the easy win crowd, and the lack of variety, and there you go.

I will you what. Next time I'm on TS in a 4 person group I will go to the other dropships and ask if they want to do an 8 person team. Who knows it might just work!
