I wonder if they are going to cap the download speeds of the client for the people lucky enough to get a Beta Key?.... Otherwise it might fall over completely and no one will get to play!!!!

 ;) :o :o :o :o :o :o :o (added for dramatic effect)

I'm sure they have that figured out. I'm also sure we'll see tons of posts from people who get into the beta, unless they'll be NDA's involved?

Possible but I imagine they wouldn't. Considering they probably already have their servers set up for a 'live' test. They do have to check their network and capabilities after all.

I would think that they are going to cap the download speed, probably somewhere around or between 500kb/s - 1.0mb/s, they wouldn't want the servers to go down the same day they went live.

Everyone is expecting strict NDAs. The F&F Beta has been up for weeks and we haven't heard a peep.

Most of the game downloads that have one of those game clients that check for patches, usually have peer-to-peer enabled so that people download from each other, like a torrent, so there isn't as much strain on a server with the original file.

That would be an assumption that they have no intention of testing their DL capacity in the first place... technically that *should* be the first step in the Beta testing process.

Regardless of DNA ya know buddies will be telling eachother, on their team forums most likely, if they get access.

That's why it's a Beta, to test the systems and the functionality of the game its self.

Here's an idea: send the beta key as well as a private .torrent file so users can seed/DL/pause at their own pace, with their own setup. (Limited bandwidth out here, low latency though). I'd try to seed the **** out of it of course. I could remotley manage my torrent server in Kentucky, download it from there, and seed it infinitely from there. Only if you guys want gigabit downloads though....

Even if someone shares the .torrent file publicly, you'd still need a key so i guess thats not a real problem.

My PC sits at home running torrents 24/7 anyway; I'd even shut off my other seeds until the weekend was over to make the most of my 2Mb upload stream. The more people playing, exploiting, and breaking the game this weekend, the better.

It depends on the company. They're already putting out a lot of in game footage videos and stuff so I'm not sure how heavy the NDA will be.

Some games you can't even say you're in the Beta, others that's /all/ you can say, and still others don't really have one.

With how highly anticipated this game is I would reason the will have an ironclad NDA. And they will continue to add screens/video at thier pace. Allowing them to control all of the info that gets out to shed a positive light on their product.

Cuz that's worked so well :P No offense to the guys at PGI but a goodly chunk of the stuff they have released hasn't been met with nothing but sunshine, rainbows, and bronies. Several threads of vitriol spewed as result of some of those postings :o

I didn't say we would be seeing gumdrop rainbows and fields of unicorns .... that we stomp through with Mechs. Just saying that would be ideal from a marketing perspective. We all know that people will spit venom and vitrol whenever they feel slighted or just because they don't have anything better to do.

Ironclade NDA would be pointless with all the released info and footage already. Those NDA's are normally for games that try and limit ANY release of information. Not for games that have gone "Hey everyone, you can do this, this, this, Oh, you can also do this, that, this" What would be the point of a Ironclade NDA if they have pretty much told us the primary details?

I'm sure they are settling for P2P transfers. A small downloader to download initially, followed by the installer using the torrent system to download all the files so everyone downloads and everyone uploads to everyone.

Then again, it all depends on how many testers will be in the initial wave.

I agree. A torrent client with a couple of dedicated seeds is the way to go.

Sadly, a torrent client nowadays can get you raided and your equipment confiscated. Cause only pirates use torrents, and stuff.

Or the *IAA Goon Squads say, anyhow.

Very true but if you use a P2P set up that is closed to MWOs players then it isn't illeagal. Granted there could and would be hacks.
