I played Mechwarrior Online on Sunday 00:40 EST 30/12/2012. I logged in with a group in River City night. There, a player in a modified Hunchback named [Redacted] started attacking his own team, killing several of them.

Verbally, the person in question was talking about each kill being an 'honorable fight' (most were kills from behind), him being a Clan warrior, not siding with an Inner Sphere team due to him being Clan, that it was roleplay and 'couldn't be helped' and so forth. When we happened to all be dead with only him being left, he didn't fight back the opposing team and instead made an 'honorable disconnect' - making it that much longer for the opposing team to get a win and forcing us all to wait for our base to be captured before we coudl play again.

My advice?

Remember the name. Don't let that happen to you.

edit: meant well, but redacted the name - This guy's not worth getting me in trouble.. Appologies to the mods for eventually needing to attend this thread - I don't hang out on the boards all that much. Hopefully he'll get his just desserts.

Duly noted. I ran a search for griefing to verify if there were not already guidelines in that regard beyond submitting a report - "name and shame" is an expression I had not heard of until today (hence not really being able to tell what the pinned topic was about in the first place). I will keep that in mind in the future - thank you.

Whilst I support the name and shame rule. I find myself in cases like this, agreeing with the sentiment of warning the community.

I also was in one of those games. This individual and anyone associated with him should be gone. Game spoilers and counter-productive for the sale of MC at all. If you are doing it to prove some point then go pound sand. Others here are here to play the game as intended. Also I would encourage devs to IP ban in cases like this as the above post would lead to believe some would create trash accounts to stir the fecal matter.

Fine be part of the problem. Shows a lot of character there. Lore, my mechs rearend. In this game the rules are established. Getting a little on a teammate in the act of destroying an enemy is a world apart from this type of behavior, which is complete BS.

Just pointing out this has been mentioned---

And also was talked about in a thread the named person started of his own.

I do suggest removing names-------

It amazes me that some people would support the idea of griefing players in game. Roleplaying a traitor has no place in MWO at this time.

The guy obviously doesn't care what he's done. I can pretty much assure you he's sitting behind his PC laughing his a$$ off at us. I just hope players who grief in game are actually punished properly.

I've played the bad guy in games before, but always within the rules. There's no excuse for breaking them the way he's done, and every game he (or anyone, for that matter) griefs in game just adds to the chances that players will leave.
