Why Do This To New Players? Trial Mech Issue

This is actually the first time I write on this forum but after played this game for a few months and loved it to bits still I simply felt that there is just something wrong with the trial mechs that new players have to choose from!

This time I have the particular trial mech namely:

DRAGON DRG-5N

So what is so bad about this trial mech? Let's take a look at its load-out that new players are presented with:

arms:
1 ult AC5 25 rounds of ammo
1 medium laser

chest:
1 LRM 10 360 rockets worth of ammo


This mech have 3 ballistic 1 missile 2 energy and 1 ams hardpoint.


What does this tell us? Well first of all 25 rounds of ammo for an AC5 ultra seems quiet darn low if you ask me as you chew trough the ammo fast! And on top of that if the AC jam you are only left with a little medium laser for shorter range defense!

Your LRM 10 have 360 rockets I'm not kidding, why not install a SRM system instead and make it more of a short range/medium range brawler that uses high speed? Cause I understand the concept of firing the LRM while moving but new players usually have a hard time understanding when to do this and understand the map layouts to know where you can fire to actually hit your target.


I bet almost no one would build this mech like this and I find it rather sad since the Dragon mechs are good during to their tight controls and damage potential but giving new players such weird quirky builds that rarely gets the job done simply baffles me.

Take the current Dragon trial mech for a spin and play a round and you will understand what I mean.

I'm sure others have the same thoughts as well about trial mechs, why not make trial mechs more solid builds, of course not displaying the mechs full potential but simply make them more new player friendly to keep new players playing. Not to mention the grinding to buy their first own mech to customise!

Heh, I think he's trying to say that this has been mentioned before, in another thread. I thought the devs were dealing with this, but I guess I might be wrong.

Either way I totally agree with you. The dragon build is probably the worst build I've ever seen. In fact, I would like to see some of the trial builds beefed up a bit. I mean, most of them are better than the current dragon build, but I really feel that they're all terribad.

The very least they could do is add ES to all the builds and make use of the leftover tonnage. I can't think of a single mech I own wich does not have ES installed.

Yes, yes. I am trolling. I mean its not like the search function couldn't have assisted the OP in seeing the other hundred threads on the exact same topic. Thus why this one is new and exciting.

If the trial mechs were as good as the custom ones why would i need to buy more. I would just buy 1 or 2 and then use trials.
After 25 matches you have no need for trial mechs anyway.
SHould have been here when it took a while to earn enough c-bills to buy a custom mech.
Play your 25 and move on, and if you want to complain about trial mechs, find one of the other 7623 other threads about it instead of starting another one.
Its annoying to see the same thread over and over, just use the search button and add to one.

The problem is that Trial mechs are stock designs that work well for TT, but not for MWO. 25 shots (which is inflated from TT values but I'll use them for my example anyway) would last almost 12 turns, which combined with the LRM would give it a full game's worth of long range support. But in MWO you end up with a big gun that is out of ammo very quickly, and a very weak LRM support. It really doesn't do any justice to the chassis or showcase what it can do (except for it's speed).

Most TT designs work very poorly in MWO. They either run very hot, or have too little ammo. Given the choice, I'd rather have a hot running mech that I can just manage the heat.

Thank you, that then makes much more sense, well sorry if I brought up an already mentioned subject, just felt I had to say something about to maybe perhaps the devs will notice it and make the trial mech system better.

And yes hot running mechs are better even if its meant to be used by new players they will at least have more fun with it
