I really do not like talking/writing tactics with players I do not know, and given em out. But I really need to point this out. First of all, 15 minutes is not really enough time to talk tactics and small maps really do not help in the battles we are in. We know by now where the enemy is going to be. But the main tactic (which is not a tactic) all use is "Stick Together". That manuaver is bound to be a target for enemy to destroy the whole team, even by friendly fire. Players need to know the enemy needs to be cut off/pulled back, and toyed with, and so much more. Sticking together does none of that. That is all I am going to write....figure the rest out.

i have a perfect fitting solution for that..

get yourself a light mech.. tell your team where to wait.. and play the bait..
not perfect but almost that will win your every match.. if you dont face 1-2 very high aiming skilled players or a sync drop team.

figure out the rest..

Amen, heading off on your own in anything but a light mech or fast dragon, is just deciding that when the two blobs crash, yours will be down in firepower.

See, your idea of drawing some of them off, it only works if they don't follow the prime commandment of "stick together".

Implying the Dragon has firepower.

Actually, I'm implying that the dragon doesn't have much firepower, if it's fast.
I say this as someone who loved Dragons back in closed beta, and has a Flame currently. The amount of hurt on a 60ton fast mech is generally much less than on a 65-70ton mech traveling slower.

Oh shush you big negative noonoo. Sticking together is level one tactics, and everyone should practice it from time to time. The game is not yet at a place where we should expect much more from PUG matches, but that will change. Probably when we get some people actually able to fill the command role.

Edit: 'Stick together' is still a better tactic than 'everyone split up.'

Most pug matches I lose are because the team split up and got taken down one by one or in small groups by an opposing side who didn't. I think you have to avoid that before moving on to anything more clever.

EDIT - Nice to see an NS13 tag. I had some great fun in MW4 with NS13 guys.

Recently I saw a player (in an atlas) who didn't know the meaning of "stick together". So he rushed alone with his brand-new atlas and the opposing team took their chance and blew him away in some seconds. Obviously the opposing team knew what "stick together" and "focus fire" means... :) :)

May not have been a noob in that Atlas. I sometimes get Pretty Reckless Snowhawk. Next thing I know I'm...

When you see the only Atlas on your team start walking in a straight line across that lake towards the enemy you know you are in trouble...

Hey be nice.

Stick together is a movement to get into place. Most matches been in with "Stick Together" the team has lost, included with FF. So, you have 15 min of live left, and the words..."Ok guys, stick together" is suicide. Easy targets from the enemy. Their is way more and tactics other than "Stick Together"

Well, it's the only tactic that works without communication, so it's basics for PUGs. You yourself say that you don't want to communicate tactics with your team, so how do you figure an ambush or flanking maneuver can work in a PUG? Everything other than sticking together either results in 2 larger groups that may have a chance of flanking the enemy by themselves (best case) or 8 mechs wandering all alone towards the enemy to get picked up one by one (worst case).

LOL VeeDog. Staying together is the basic principle. Sticking together allows your team to mass fire, AMS, and armor if your team is cohesive enough. Splitting to the 4 winds kills group faster than staying close ever will. Tactics 101.

Except it generally does work if the other enemy splits up. If they don't you get a massive and fun brawl. :)

"Stick Together" isn't a tactic, it's just basic instructions. If you take it to mean that the mechs should be standing on top of each other, then that's an issue your your comprehension, not the basic premise of the idea. Sticking together is being close enough to support each other, peeling off lights, focus firing, covering the withdrawal of a teammate who's being focused or just heavily damaged, etc..., as opposed to each wandering off to do their own thing. Anyone who gives it a moment's thought also realizes it doesn't apply to scouts or those who otherwise have an actual tactical reason to be separated from the main force.

While you may not say it, the majority of any wins you get are the result of people applying this basic idea, with the rest being when neither team did.

Stick Together doesn't really deserve to be called a tactic; it's just something people do when they can't be bothered to think of anything better.

I have made my team(s) win (most) with my tactical ideas, that I have told. Some matches I have lost, due to lost of commication...or the "Stick Together". Majority of my team losses are with "Stick together". Easier for LRM boaters to wipe out a team. All it takes for the enemy to spot location, and the message gets out.."They are all at...." and team I am in is wiped out due to "Stick Together" Never won with Stick together. But toying with the enemy I have. Conquest has helped my team win, Either myself being a bug or Winging with a team mate. Because the enemy doesn't cap in time, because they are making movements in "Assualt" mode. Catch me one and one...you be down in seconds, but 3-4-8 vs one...their is no honor in the battle. If "Stick Togeher", put some formation, placement into it. Its gets all messy if not. Their ya go...think.

Stick together does not mean hump the leg of the mech next to you. There still needs to be room to maneuver.

However, I always try to get out of the way of the one or two mechs who insist on circling with the faster light as they are going to be firing all their weapons in every direction...

Of course stick together also means when we've met the enemy, don't leave that one guy all alone because even though a warrior's death is cool and all it also leaves your team one short. Help each other retreat instead of calling "every mech for itself!"....

When 4 man dropping I'm constantly having to call pugs back to the group so they don't get cut off and killed. It's like they don't get it. The team aspect is the core to this whole game, it's what makes it great. You can't properly coordinate with text chat. Pugs get rolled because they can't be helped, can't bring a range of hardware that forms a functioning unit and can"t react to an enemies move and shift. This all comes toghether with voice comms. I have tried countless times to get pugs to just come on TS and listen in to a coordinated group that functions. The progress of this game should not be affected by the opinions of players who want to dumb drop for a couple of matches to shoot stuff up to see it go boom. Come on TS and start having real fun with this game.

The longer I play these maps the less I communicate since everybody alreadyy knows the viable tactics.

Example:
You start in ice city southern (lower) spawn point.
In 95% of all games that end with a win (excluded those games where the enemy team defeats itself)
it is due to one of two tactics:

1) Go tunnel
2) Defend in F5 (between the buildings below the ****** ridge) or one square to the right.

So games starts
teamchat: tunnel
answer yes -> go tunnel
answer no -> okay F5 then

end of conversation. maybe announce some targets like "A" or "B" or if you spot the enemy team in the tunnel
end of game.
