In the very few times I've visited this site over the past month or so, I've noticed that 60-70% of all popular threads are filled with whining, negativism, and general bashing of the Devs for the game's numerous shortcomings.

While I can understand and appreciate most of the complaints, it is getting VERY OLD to see a new thread every time I log in whining about how "LRMs are OP," or "ECM needs to be nerfed" (I'm just picking on two of the most prevalent, but there are many others).

So this thread is my attempt at building up the game and its Devs with positive comments and observations. Not ego-stroking, mind you, just some things that players see about the game that are good, instead of focusing on all the bad things.

For example: one thing I've always enjoyed when playing MW:O are the beautiful graphics. Even though I have to play on Low Settings (because anything higher gives my GPU cooties), I can still appreciate the amount of thought and planning that went into the environment.

Feel free to contribute to this thread (pictures of gameplay highlights or mech color schemes are more than welcome!), but only if you've got something positive to say. If you can't think of anything, then I'd advise you to find another place to post.

Prolonged ranting and complaining/whining on this thread will prompt me to ask a Mod to lock and remove it.

Gotta say i love the map design especially river city. Im always blown away by how much there is on the map to gawp at it really looks like a city that has been blown to hell with craters, smashed highways and levelled buildings.

There used be billboards with ads for MWO on them, which I thought was odd since we were already playing MWO...

If they had someone writing the code as good as the graphics artist this game would be awesome.

The majority of the player base (willing to use the forums) post about a shortcoming, the devs read and see what the majority agree on, they agree on it and fix it. Game gets better and progress is made.

I'd rather see complaint threads than ones that do nothing to help the devs with development.

As for the map (especially the city ones), there is a lack of interactivity with them. Passing through things like trees and cars that are indestructible.

Amen, the mech redesigns are beautiful.
I wish I could buy miniatures for my TT campaign with these mech designs (Esp Jenner, those are FUGLY).
I suppose there's always 3D printing if I could get a hold of the 3D models.

I think their sound design so far has been excellent. Even machine guns sound awesome. Its cool that just about every patch has a sound tweak that just makes it better and better. We've come a long way from the almost pea-shooter sounding autocannons of closed beta.

Also, WUB WUB WUB.

Nice post OP. I agree with the need for more positive threads.

For me, the last time I played a Mechwarrior title was back in 96-97'. Because of lag and Internet speed, you could only play 2 vs 2 with all textures turned off. I appreciate the fact that I can play 8 vs 8 now with great graphics. I'm hopeful for upcoming development.

i was blown away by river city. the water effects, sound, lighting, all of it. they have introduced a little bit of interactivity in river city. if you shoot a street light with a ballistic weapon...IT FALLS OVER. over all i think this game thus far is still awesome. i dont think anyone thing is OP, i think people just dont like adapting to play styles. i do want moar content though....

I think the game could improve. The raw possibility in what is so far created is impressive. I don't bash devs, although many do. I do call people on using terrible logic and bad arguments to try to support their opinion which are coffin nails in MWO as a future great game.

That bright lime green seizure color on the snow map sky needs to get toned down by 5000%.

It's rather simple for me: The game is fun. I usually play PUGs, sometimes in small groups (with one or two friends). I win and loose. I've gotten better and better lately, having maintained a positive k/d ratio and all this while never using one of the past and present min-max-builds (and not planning to change this in the future).

I played with balanced and diverse builds because this is the most fun for me. When I try the second and third variant of a chassis I'm usually building it so it has an all different setup than the other two variants and maybe even weapons I have never used before on any variant or chassis. Varity is key to the fun for me and as of now MWO has provided this to me. ;)

And of course I'm also enjoying the graphics, like the TS mentioned. Every once in a while when there is time to stare at the environment I'm amazed by the great textures, the animated waves of the ocean, the beautiful lighting and particle effects. I've been playing the franchise and reading the books since I played MechWarrior 3 (was just a spectator at a friends PC back with MechWarrior 2 ^^) and am loving it. I think, despite all the setbacks, bugs and glitches, that MWO is a worthy title in the series.

Nice thread,

but then as a beta player my job is

1) To have fun
2) To point out problems

While I agree that there are lots and lots of whiny threads out there (just saw a nerf the SRM6 CAT thread OMG ;) )
There are also many threads that just point out problems and many people try to provide constructive criticism.
Especially the ECM threads are filled with suggestions and are not against the general mechanics of ECM but about balance and electronic warfare .....

I agree and support this statement. Lord knows we desperately need ideas to help with the numerous balance issues.

My reason for creating this thread is twofold: firstly, it's to give people who truly enjoy the game (and I KNOW there are many who do) to get away from the whining and to see that there are other like-minded people who enjoy the game as well.

The second reason for making this thread is to show the Devs that many of us still enjoy the game. I can't imagine pumping the sheer amount of time and effort they have into a FREE game of this magnitude, only to see all of these whiny, complaining , entitled chumps tear that hard work to shreds.

It's always nice to hear a little encouragement. ;)

I actually am pretty pleased with the game. Love the sounds, the graphics, the maps, especially the big stompy mech feel, and the astonishing attention to detail (missile tubes affecting launch, cockpit details, etc)

yes no doubt, the mechs look better than they did in the original cannon! especially the Raven, but heck I am not going to start pointing out better looking mechs, they all look better! ;)

Haha, actually I don't have any in-game screenies, since I've been on hiatus from the game for about a month and usually don't take screencaps anyway. In fact, I don't even own a hunchie. I found that beautiful picture on the interwebz.

Still, I can get decent graphics, even on low settings. I don't get the beautiful shell ejection and blast particles that other people can see on high settings and the missile impacts aren't as impressive, but it is still pretty breathtaking.

I just sit patiently, waiting and hoping that they'll eventually make the game more compatible with my video card.

Can't believe I missed this post. It made my entire day to hear that interactive map entities await my return!

I think that's the best way to put it. Thanks for not being destructive in your criticism. That's becoming a lost art among human beings on the internet.

mechs are pretty, maps are pretty, and getting better, weapons have a good presence. (when my 4 ppc stalker alphas, people know it) in cockpit graphics are looking good, looking forward to more with that. Devs are responsive, even more so now than before. (working as intended.) shadows are really well done now. (I remember the floating statue) bb sounds great, missiles have come a long way. (anyone remember MW4 missiles? ...)

positive threads serve a purpose too. if I went into a new game forum and all I saw were imbalance, fail and refund threads, I'd probably move on to a different game.
