Is Mwo Supposed To Become An Mmo ?

Maybe i got it wrong when MWO project came out the first time.
When MWO was advertised, it was advertised asa Mechwarrior game on a persistent experience with an ongoing Planetary War, wasn t it?
How this will ever happen really?
I tried to give a shot to PlanetSide 2 just to understand something about ongoing War and Persistent World.
I also tried a bit of Galactica Online in the past. i was not impressed but there was a lot to do on that F2P game.
No, i didn t try WoT neither I will. No, i will not try Hawken, not even if they pay ME to do it.
A friend showed to me EVE Online and was explaining all of the interaction and vastity of the EVE Universe.
Another couple of friends showed me Guild Wars 2 and LOTR.... How ppl interact with each other, how the Realms are working.. or whatever they call them.
After looking around with all of these games, I know I am a Mechwarrior fan.. but I have so many questions....
MWO has Nothing comparable to ANY of those MMOs.
MWO has no infrastructure. MWO has no Lobbies, NO Player Friendly GUI to incentivate communication and interaction.
I have been in MWO since the very beginning of CB and only about 2 months ago I discovered THERE IS A CHAT in our poor Friend list!!!! really, if you double click a name, YOU CAN CHAT with that player! It sucks, but hey.. is there !! Incredible!
So, I have so many questions.
I know, i know, DEVs said Warfare Community will come, and at the moment they have nothing to disclose about it. I KNOW.
Nonetheless, i wonder, what that will be? When i look at PS2, I don t like that fast paced FPS, kinda BF 2142 meets Halo, where my average spawn life is about 45 seconds IF I PLAY AS A LONEWOLF (and Pugs are complaining about MWO??? Really??)
So when i look at PS2, it has a such beautiful MMO interface!! Those things are INFRASTRUCTURE.
That means designers knew what to achieve well before creating a FPS shooter engine, and built their game AROUND THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE. And this is just an example.
MWO has no infrastructure at all. DEVs created 4 small maps, a rudimental Player room, an inefficent Game MatchMaker, a basic Game Mode and 16 (or whatever) Mechs to play with....
They called Closed Beta at first and then Open Beta... Then they gave us Cockpit Ornaments for the Holiday Celebration.
It seems to me it is Light Years away from even suppose to be an MMO.
So, did I get it all wrong since the very beginning? was ever this project suppose to become an MMO or was just supposed to be this senseless Combat Arena ?

The game that we play will always be "senseless Combat Arena" as you put it.
The MMO part is when they put in community warfare, when our "senseless Combat Arena" matches start to matter for who controls what planets.
This game is Mech Combat. Anyone who expected something different was lied to or just misunderstood it from the start.

This will be more like if Planetside had a wild night out with WoT you get the matchmaking form WoT with the need for resource control and constanly shifting powerbase of Planetside.
It will Not be World of Mechcraft (that can not even be made in a good way.. trust me)

That being said, they do plan on having the metagame (factions vrs factions) be pseudo mmo, in that you can help capture a planet and then it's part of your factions spoils (at least until it's recaptured) It's unknown how or if this will affect the economy, or availability of equipment/mechs/etc However. It might just be a map with lights your facton's color showing which planets you own, or maybe it will be something more. We don't know.

So when you say "Is it an MMO?" Yes. yes it is. Is it an MMORPG? It has RPG elements.. sure..
As for the rest of your post? Read the Dev Blogs, they are still adding things and the dev blogs outline what they want to add.

The way Conquest plays out now isnt great, but they just added it, and they will likely make changes. Before they even think about adding the Persistant map and war, they need to iron out these modes. Conquest needs more corridination then Assualt, and the lack of a pre game lobby to plan with the team, makes this game mode weak.

You missed the point by a large margin.

So, the game is large in scope (account for community warfare), is multiplayer, and online, so yes, it is an MMO.
it's more of a sim now, but once community warfare comes out, that is when the MMO part will kick in with factions and whatnot.

to be really fair, don't compare this game to anything that is a multiplayer game, those multiplayer games being compared to this house up to 64 players in one round. that is on a massive scale compared to this game. this game should not only be considered a multiplayer game, but a very small one at that.
it dosent matter how many are in the match, its how many are effecting the world. And mirrored, a game that hoses 100 people in one match, but the match does not effect what is outside that match, I.E. persistent world, is not eligible to comparison either by your own standard.
now you are going to puff up about the fact that matches dont matter for anything right now. Pufpufpuf. :\ We know there is going to be a map of the innersphere we can fight over. We know community warfare is goign to the be mainstay of this game. Is it out yet? No. but it is coming.
Dont get cought up on what the game is and forget what they are going to do.
