Anyone remember the old Battletech game on AOL? I loved that game and am really excited to jump into MWO. Is there any similarities? It looks like there's battle damage, which is great, and a lot of the mech names seem familiar. I remember in Battletech people frowned upon taking out the legs of enemy mechs, is there a similar belief in MWO?
Still need to watch all the training videos, want to at least have some idea of what I'm doing before dropping in.

Welcome to the game. :D Hopefully you will be all giddy with nostalgia while learning the ropes. The game does have a steep learning curve- don't expect your first 100 matches to be great. But once you get the hang of things you will find there are few things as fun as blowing up internet robots.

As Davers said, steep learning curve. You will die. A lot. The next game is just minutes away so it's all good. Save your cbills and buy the mech you want and go out and have fun. This game can be stupid fun once you have that "a-ha" moment and everything clicks and makes sense. Stick with your lance and back them up. See you on the field!

Legging is not frowned upon. In one of the other games taking out 1 leg destroyed a mech, and was considered a cheap tactic, in MWO it is usually more efficient to take out a torso instead of a leg, all armor values here are doubled to make the matches last longer.

As a matter of fact, I sugest you aim for the legs of light mechs, slowing them down is very useful.
