I have used 90 FOV and found out you can see the pilots body rather well if you pan down with free look.

Well done guide Wickwire.

The suggested 79 was a bit high for my Hunchback as the upper *blin blink* is in the field of view. So...dumb question incoming...if I want to be closer to the window again, do I set the value higher or lower? I guess lower...

PS: Resolution and ratio is 1920x1080 & 16:9.

Well, the suggested for 16:10 is 85, but I use 80 which looks pretty good to me. So maybe start by trying 74.

Bro, I thank you dearly for this and this is coming from someone who hardly posts on the forums for a good reason.

I know I'm coming real late to this party, but for whatever reason (which I cant seem to ascertain) my FoV just will not change. I have literally NOTHING in my user.cfg other than the cl_fov = 90. I have tried removing the system.cfg thinking for some reason the game was just ignoring my user.cfg to no affect.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I run dual monitors, could this be preventing a FoV change for some reason?

I tried 90, 85, 80 before settling on 75 on my 1920x1200 (16:10) monitor, any more than that and I found I sat so far back in the mech that too much screen space was taken up by interior walls in the cockpit and enemies appeared pretty small.. Bumping FOV up will also make the first level of zoom more worthwile

What do I do if I don't have a user.cfg file? Shouldn't one be generated after you launch the game if you don't have one?

Press dot (.) to turn off cockpit lights

Is this feature gone now? I have been unable to turn down light for the last 2 patches.

Just create a txt file, name it "user.cfg", put it in correct folder and it should be fine.

I have the similar issue. It's not impossible that it has been broken. :(

Still works for me. They changed it two or three patches ago though, it's hard to notice on the Frozen City for example. I think it's a harder light source now.

Is it a cheat though?

On an Atlas you get nothing from it but the flavor of your cocpit, and on those mechs that do benifit from it (like the raven) are generally those mechs for whom that extra knowledge is a matter of life or death.

I can see where some would consider it a cheat...but I would be surprised if you got in trouble for it.

If FOV adjustments are a cheat has been discussed on virtually all games that offer this option, either in-game or via config, and the consensus is that
  • even if it is an advantage, it is a negligible one. that'd be like saying "player X has a better graphics card, thus better performance, thus easier aiming - having a better pc thus is cheating"
  • sometimes it even is a disadvantage, the Atlas cockpit being a good example
  • but at the same it time can add a lot of comfort for the player, in our case cockpit immersion - the Atlas cockpit being a good example again
  • if all players have the option, how can it be considered a cheat?

Ok I need some help here (or maybe just some clarification). I did a re-install of the game to try and clear up some issues I was having and got those cleared up. However when I went into my program files (to tweak my FoV back up to 85) my user.cfg file has been replaced with 2 files called system.cfg and systemoverride.cfg and both say not to alter them. One does have a note in it that I can save personal changes to a file called 'systemcfgoverride.cfg' but 1) I can't find it and 2) Don't know if making it will screw up my game. Can anyone help me out here?

System.cfg and systemoverride.cfg have always been there (at least for me).
Creating a user.cfg should help you.
