The user.cfg needs to go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\

NOT in Bin32

The nice thing about this is that on some mechs it will greatly increase your peripheral vision through side windows etc.

Let's hope we get an integrated FOV-slider in the game soon, I'd like this feature to be native instead of tweaking around in a file. Would feel more at home with that.
(I usually tweak game files whenever I can, but with MWO it feels like I'm not playing the game like I'm supposed to if I have to circumvent this with my user.cfg)

I turned this on and I found it kind of annoying, because I could see less "outside" of my windows, do you guys not have that issue? I feel like I'm gimping myself by doing this.

That's what the zoom is for :-) With higher FOV you actually have better peripheral vision.

9/22/13 Update:

Just did a fresh install of the game (was having horrible driver crashes in only MWO) Seems to have cleared up. But now when I go to add in my "CL_fov = 78" it's not doing anything. WTF? user.cfg is sitting there in my /F:/Program Files (x86)/ Piranha Games/Mechwarrior Online ..... and nothing. I missing something here?

For me I'm having the same issue. I've reinstalled the game because of it.
Mine is in E:\Games\Mechwarrior Online

try making a systemcfgoverride.cfg and putting the cl_fov = xx in there, does that work?

I recently joined the club and the different directory with the same command works for me.

I did have to modify the value to my preferance though.

I also love seeing all the items in my cockpit. It makes me want to get a few more.

A plethora of screenshots taken at 100 FOV for a very genuine "I'm in the cockpit" experience in this album.

The bigger FOV the lesser precision cause all enemy's Mechs are thinner. ;)

Zoom once. It's the same as zooming once with an FOV of 30 or an FOV of 9000. Problem solved.

And lose all enhanced-FOV's bonuses. No?

Until you zoom back out. All you need to do is zoom and unzoom. Zoom for precision, unzoom to see around you. Same as any other game that features it. The difference is how much peripheral vision you get without zooming in.

This is an FOV of 75. Watch the zoom, it's identical to anyone else's.

And when I zoom out it goes back to what I set.

So in theory setting your FOV would render them wider? :D
That might be how a few select people I keep dropping against (who shall remain unknamed due to my bad memory at the moment and the EULA) keep consistently hitting my Commando's rear side torsos every time I see them...

....Or maybe they are just that good :)
An interesting thought either way.

Your monitor has fixed width, no? ;)

70 looks fine to me. If it is 80-85 - everything looks weird: fish eye effect. It looks stupid and brakes immersion.

Now I am confused
If widening the FOV makes things thinner: then shortening it should make them wider, no?
What does my monitor have to do with it?

Unless.... you are comparing it to warping my monitor?
(Rather non-functioning at the moment, and I am not sure why so I may be missing the obvious.... :))
