Got your attention with the title no doubt.

There is a lot of noise about a respawn mode atm. Personally im against it and prefer the dropship suggestion more but one other way of allowing people back into the fight did occur to me.

What about a game mode where each side has a number of points like tickets in battlefield 3 and each time you die and choose to come back a number of points are removed equal to the battlevalue of the mech you choose to come back in with and when your sides points are exhausted your side can no longer reenter and once your all dead its game over?

For example an atlas would have a higher battlevalue than a commando so would use more points if you choose to reenter the fight in one. This would force people to consider their choices more tactically and if your side is losing and running out of points a sensible player would switch to a small cheap mech to preserve points.

The mode could then be split up into small medium and large number of points so perhaps each guy could only really come back in twice to a full 1hr marathon slog across the map.

Well anyways what do people think, would this be a acceptable way to placate those who wish to come back into the fight without breaking the strategy of battletech?

I am supportive of dropship mode, but I am against respawns in general. I see your idea just turning into a light mech fest since they are cheap but still very capable. Also, this game is NOT A NORMAL FPS. The whole idea should be working towards game modes that will support community warfare, and respawns DO NOT fit into that game.

Hmm, yeah i could see it ending up into a lightfest as well. Biggest problem with the game at the moment is a way to enforce balance.

In some shape or form I wish they'd implement battle value into the game to get both sides roughly equal. By battle value i mean the total value of a mech, its equipment and modules.

Well all in all I just hope they dont implement a standard respawning deathmatch mode it'd attract a lot of players but would be the kiss of death.

Yes I agree with the dropship idea and its on record that I am an advocate of battlefield repair using fixed sites at your base or MFB's / MediMechs. I draw the line at Respawn unless we go with the ejected pilot idea from last month. In this scenario the pilot would eject from his or her cored Mech and wander back to a dropship (Mech Assault style) and pick up a spare Mech. The problem with this is time; again the missions would need to be extended to make it realistic.

Ejected pilot idea does sound fun.

One of the biggest issues i think will come with any kind of dropship/repspawn/reentry mechanic is spawn camping. I guess the only way to fix that is if mechs start off the edge of the map in the out of bounds area and walk into the combat zone.

And field bases have always been fun in my view. As long as they take awile to fix the mech and can be blown up ofc.

Dropship mode would be kind of fun, but hell no to ticket or point based spawn. Lack of respawn is critical to the way this game plays, ticket spawn makes no sense in universe. This game has a more immersive factor that is ruined by that. Plus, I can just imagine problems because the lousy players who die will just grab expensive mechs and eat up all the points.

Well, ***** noobs taking all the points would be an issue in pug games. A way to counter it is to have the match stats/rewards calculated based on the battlevalue you used in the match vs the bv of mechs/equipment destroyed.

A terrible noob would end up with a godawful score and would soon either get better or play a different mode :)

I don't have any rationalizations to justify this idea, but the idea of re-spawning the same Mech into a match does not work well with general direction the game is taking. Drop ship mode or relaunching from another Mech from your Mechbay, is a lot more workable.

I have seen multiple team based games with team only areas and a timed counter when the enemy player would die for entering the zone.

Its not a bad Idea but in my experience once a brawl starts the odds of being able to get away from that brawl, going to a spot and performing a repair are incredibly slim.

Even if you did get away from it, when you got back the enemy team will be mostly gone, your team would be mostly gone or you would be the last person left with full health against 3-5 players.
