It's 8 heat for the PPC.

I stand corrected. My ability to copy from websites is obviously lacking this morning.

Interesting to use weapon stats to come up with an avg damage per hit.
Obviously skill comes into play. I admit I'm not very good at this. Since gaining some experience I've been using ML's less and PL's and PPC's more. Perhaps my avg damage per hit with the ML's would be higher than is shown here since improving a bit.

ML: 288 Hit - 716 Dmg - 2.5 Avg Dmg per hit
LL: 156 Hit - 810 Dmg - 5.2 Avg Dmg
ERLL: 4 hit - 24 Dmg - 6 Avg Dmg
LPL: 201 Hit - 1166 Dmg - 5.8 Avg Dmg
PPC: 125 Hit - 1025 Dmg - 8.2 Avg Dmg
ERPPC 115 Hit - 1121 Dmg - 9.7 Avg Dmg

Those kind of stats are tricky though, because even though your damage per hit is lower with the lasers, my guess is your hit percentage is higher. I know in my case I have about an 80% hit rate with lasers, as opposed to a 60% hit rate with PPCs.

That said, I still prefer PPCs over lasers. I like the all or nothing damage style, and I don't like having to keep a time on target to do full damage. I think it's just a matter of what I'm used to - I'd prefer to take the shot and keep moving, rather than trying to focus on the target for the beam duration.

It's worth bearing in mind that the weapon statistics are deceptive in the case of laser accuracy - it registers a 'hit' whenever a beam spends any time on target, so if you barely graze a target with every shot you're apparently more accurate than a guy that consistently keeps beam on target but sends one shot in a hundred completely wide (technically unlikely, I know, but it works for the purposes of demonstration).

Your heat numbers are out of date. ERPPC is 11 heat, PPC is 7 heat, LPL is 7.30 heat.

He posted that in January. This thread is old.

Yes. I tried to elude to the fact that I'm not very good. ;)
According to the stats my ML accuracy is 85% but as suggested I could have 100% accuracy with only a tiny amount of damage done each time.
288 hits with a 5 damage weapon would be 1440 damage. Means that I'm only around 50% accurate when I actually hit the target.

PGI should have a hit damage accuracy stat. Not all that hard to figure out but might be a little more useful than hit accuracy.

I think a laser "hit" is if you actually hit a target at any point during the beam duration. So a tenth of a second sweep over a light mech is one "hit", just as a full duration shot on a mech is one "hit".

Although I do wonder - if you fire a medium laser, and sweep that over two mechs, does it count as two hits?

Damage dealt / (X*shots fired) where X is the damage of the weapon should give you, in effect, a 'proper' accuracy stat for lasers.
