For one, I feel that restricting the game to a 1:1 timeline is impractical for the following reasons:
- It limits the choices of 'mechs because certain variants are spread out over the timeline.
- As a consequence of the above, if forces PGI to release 'mechs with similar weapons layouts; the Awesome and the Stalker for example.
- It limits the amount of content PGI can release due to the timeline, equipment, weapons, other technology, etc.
- It forces the developers to release clan content before it's ready.
- Or it forces PGI into deadlines they cannot meet: delay clan invasion.
