I was watching Robot Jox the other night, and was wondering if melee weapons are ever going to make it into MWO?
Rip saws, plasma torches and high speed cutters would be fun!

I'd be totally in for that given that two of my fave mechs wield axes, but there's no telling if the devs will ever get around to that. As it stands now, I doubt it's going to come about anytime soon if at all.

The Devs have said that the only planned melee is 'charging' and DFA. There are no plans to implement other forms of melee.

Please never.
Honestly, think of how poorly melee weapons are implemented even in games that are built arround them (eg Fantasy games using swords).
Then think of how crappy it would be to get knifed by a light using it's shortness and speed to LAG-Shred you. The mechs so close that parts are clipping on he screen...
Honestly, NOT fun. Not cool. There would be absolutely NOTTHING good about melee weapons.
Just say no.

I'd have to agree. I think punching and kicking would be awesome, but the technology isn't there yet to implement it correctly.
If our mechs moved a lot slower and were... klunky, so to speak, such as in Robot Jox, then punching and kicking could work... but with today's latency issues and such, good luck implementing that.

Would be nice if it was restricted to punches and kicks (and the canon Hatchets/Swords) but ALSO with the chance of falling over.. (just like the UAC has a chance to jam..)

I'm thinking that I want a new Mech, the "Ash". An 10-X-AC on one arm, and a diamond tipped chain saw on the other.
