When used right they are just devastating, when used wrong they are spitwads.

There is a trade off and a bit of skill using them, the way it should be.

No they are not. You Cat is Boating them. Boated weapons have that appearance of OP.

Depends, if you're facing a line of mechs actoss an open area, Gauss or LRMs.

Best is relative to situation. SRM6 for DPS at close range? Probably. Shrugs.

They probably are the best weapon in terms of damage, heat, and tonnage, always have been. However, have a lot of limitations, like they have a very short range, they have a large spread pattern, and they don't always hit.

I can't imagine putting 5-6 of them on a mech since it leave a lot of gaps in your offense, but if you can sneak up on someone you will ruin their day.

Personally I think there a large number of other things to address before tweaking SRMs (like PPCs and LgPL)

God I love blowing the "ears" off catapults and then leaving them.

You are fairly wrong.

They work really well RIGHT UP CLOSE....like they were designed ....not very shocking.

A mech that comes around the corner in a city and see's a SRM Vehicle, stops, craps itself and then gets blown apart.

SRMS are supposed to be scary up close....

I know SOME people seem to think it's a GOOD idea to rush at the enemy and give them a hug, but it CAN be dangerous.

at range not so much more like an annoyance.

Will people learn that running at your enemy not knowing what he has, is a bad idea?

SRMS in TT and in any incarnation of Btech are always painful. ALWAYS!

That's what i meant, i even killed a dual Gauss Cata with absolutly no problems - but i have to be more carefull.... most games i die with that Cata, but not without killing 2-3 enemies. :)
That was, was shocked me: At close range at an agile mech, those SRM6 are deadly ...

I absolutely love it when people run into my sandblaster missle mechs. Turn the corner on a srm 6 boat and you know you've made a bad mistake.

The SRM Cat was a FOTM mech a while back. Then EVERYBODY realized how easy they are to ruin at range. They went away and were slowly replaced by SSRM Cats. These were ruined by the ECM implementation. There might be enough ignorant souls out there to keep the build and its cousin the 20 Cat viable for a while. In the end they will fall out of use again before its over with.

they are my weapon of choice as a brawler, but I've never been one to boat them.
hell sold the A1 (twice) it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm more of a dragon and hunchback type of guy :)

Stop simply making meta OP builds of the week and people will enjoy the game more and not ruin it, as much, for everyone else.

The duel ac20 cat is far stronger than the srm6 cat. I owned both for a month and if you can aim you can take people down much quicker in the ac20 cat than the srm 6 cat. The advantage of the srm6 cat is that it was more annoying because of the missile shake before when chain firing however since they fixed the cockpit shake they are not nearly as effective. Sure they still do a ton of damage but its very hard to kill light mechs with only srm6 and much easier with ac20s imho. But yeah srms have always been strong.

people who run up to catapults with dual ac/20 or 6srm6 are underpowered

amazing how many people will still insist on getting right into my face when i'm in my dual ac/20 cat

only reason they are effective is due to the map design, two are filled with places to sit that prevent effective use of long range weapons, sure you can snipe also but getting up close and personal with a srm6 hvy build is not hard, except for caustic there are not many open areas, but then most off the time that becomes a crater huddle too allowing for brawling mechs to shine

Oh good god, you just made tea come out my nose I lold so hard!

As far as the SRMs go, yeah they can be nasty(NASTY) up close, I run a phract that pairs two srm6s and an AC/20, ruins EVERYBODY's day. :D But if I get caught in the open I'm usually fried, short range is a killer if you're not paying attention.
