Multi-Monitor Support - But Not To Strech The 1St Person View.

We've already seen in numerous posts that if you have the hardware to do it, you can set your screen resolution to span multiple screens, and adjust your FOV in the config file appropriately.

But that's not what this suggestion is about.

Many people run dual screens, which is not good for streching the HUD across - who wants to have their crosshairs right at the bevel between screens. Yet, there is still some potential great value in providing dual monitor support. Here's what I'd love to see:

Primary screen - unchanged from today's game. 2nd screen would contain a full sized map with all active details you see in the mini-map & beyond. Alerts you see on your main screen might have additional information on the 2nd screen - ie, the location of incoming missles. Around the map would be a mech image for each of your teammates mechs, including their current health, weapon loadout, and status of each part of the mech. Ie, the same image that you see when you target an enemy mech, that appears in the top-right of your HUD - show this same graphic for all teammates on the 2nd screen so you have realtime information about the state of your team, and can understand important things like their weapons loadouts, so you can better assess who to work with, who may need additional cover/support, or who is a good mech to hide behind

Items like ECM could still have a negative affect on the 2nd screen - if an enemy with ECM in disrupt mode is too close, you loose the info on the 2nd screen, just like you would on your mini-map on your main screen.

I'm sure more detail could be fleshed out, but this would be the general concept for a 2nd screen in MWO.

I think this is an excellent idea. To few games make use of an auxillary 2nd monitor. Having a fullscreen map would be a great addition to the game and an excellent tool for commanders and squad leaders.

Being able to access the info and loadouts of your team is also very useful. MWO has always said that information is key and I think that being able to see detailed info and loadouts of your team is information that everybody should have access to. Id doesn't make sense that we can gather such detailed information on our enemies and only have a %of health for friendlies.

I think this is something that could be easily implemented, and with only 8 mechs per team there should be plenty of room (even on a 4:3 monitor) to display the entire map and also all of your teams detailed armor condition and weapon loadout, as well as an indicator (red "X" or blacked out) for dead teammates.

I think dual monitor setups are far more popular than 3 and this would benefit a great number of MWO players.

An informational second screen would be awesome, especially if it were user customizable.
It could also run a personal combat log, which you could review after you are dead.

This would be so awesome. And would really take the commander role to a whole new level.

I have always felt claustrophobic with the current interface due to the lack of information/menus to access.

I don't even have a multi display setup. But if they implemented this today, I would have one tomorrow!
Excellent idea Lokatana. I love it. +1

Maybe a petition to PGI should be in order...

Must admit, this would make me use my second monitor in a heartbeat!! I would also suggest the ability if you have a three monitor setup (eyefinity or the like) make this option take up either the left or right screen at the users request. I mean we loose our whole view now if we bring up the map, so why not make it take 1/3 of your vision if you toggle it on that type of setup.

With the hardware that is kicking around these days, multi-monitor support should be one of things things that these types of games should really be pushing,

Either surround/eyefinity or secondary screens for more info is a REALLY good way to make use of all the extra horsepower some of us have.

What I dont want to hear is the phrase 'pay to win'. Where people that have a 5yr old GPU and a single 17" screen complain that others of us with money get an advantage. Lets face it, PC gaming has ALWAYS been expense requiring 1000s of £/$ etc a year to play. If you are not playing on a decent PC and you can't afford to upgrade you should be playing on consoles (that is why they are made).

Though WE NEED SLI / CROSSFIRE to be enabled!! What I cant understand is why a game running on CRYENGINE3!!!! does not have multi-GPU support is BEYOND me! This should have been enabled from day dot!

I am just in the process of purchasing a new machine (yh i was 1 of those unfortunate few whos machine couldnt run MWO above 3 FPS) but i do run a dual 17" display that id love to be able to take advantage of, normally i have my primary monitor my gameplay monitor and 2nd just TS so i can see whats going on with chat etc. but if i could use it to see battlefield info and a giant map would rock! as i dnt want to push the new graphics card to hard as its gna be a Radeon HD 7770 as id like to still retain the ability to record using FRAPS and it not effect my gameplay. always thought using 3 monitors for stretched gameplay id make GPU work harder and effect FPS.
PGI let us make use of our 2 screen setups!! lol
