Here is one possible solution. MWO is a FREE to play game. You want a server for your Group/Clan/Guild? Pay for it in the MWo Store. After a couple of minutes the person who setup the server gets a setup email and posts that to the guilds info section in the game. Now the group hits a button that they can assign on the plug in to activate the push to talk feature. Until you pay for it the built in VOIP is disabled.

Options
Teamspeak 3 [better features and audio quality then ventrillo, I've used both for over 8 years.]
OOVOO [12 people in a conference call. Or vid chat.]
Mumble [never used]
Skype [limited conferencing]

I don't understand. Why pay for a TS3 server built into MW:O when you can pay for a regular TS3 server and use it for other games as well?

This. Companies like Vivox make VoIP modules you just splice into games,

I've used vivox in other games before, and the quality was roughly on par with ventrillo, but with less tinkering to keep me from blowing out ear drums.

how about just having the option to integrate your existing voice server into the game?

Like team chat you would automatically connect when you logged into the game. And then stay connected while gaming. Rather then take 10 min to connect each match to a random server with the people your playing with. I do like the integration idea as i already have a TS3 server up and running but i use it for World of Warcraft.

I see clans, units, or whatever people want to call them using their own private servers for chat. I'd rather Skype for free than pay for something just to hear a bunch of people I don't know talking trash.

There are free VIOP programs like skype such as C3 (vivox runs it)

Actually I hope they integrate voice chat into the game not as something like TS3 but just as a part of the game. It makes coordinating things within your team so much easier and its not like other f2p games don't do it

actually mumble uses the same codex as TS3. TS3 has more options and is more user friendly. Mumble is good, but it's not the best currently.

here's a better solution, learn to use typed chat.

if you want to hear your friends talk, you can do that when you're not playing games.

so tired of people trying to turn gaming into another social network.

gaming is a social network. Too late to complain about that.

Agreed. Team Fortress 2 is F2P and has integrated voice chat. Some of the servers use team-chat while others only have an open game chat which is not so usable strategically. Why can't MWO do something similar? It would streamline the whole process and make it easier for new players to get into the game. even if half of the team just listens, the ability to call observations and strategies will only make the game experience better.

C3 is the Voip of choice for the Devs, its just not intergrated yet and to be honest its ok and quite easy to use.

Job done.

Why would people pay for something in game for which they have already paid for to use for other games or for free?

There are other ways to monetize in game VOIP without charging the consumer. Not necessarily good mind you, but they have to make money somehow.

Yes, were. But they have left it kind of half-way integrated, or rather not optimally integrated. Vivox is also junk compared to other VOIP programs.
