Why Do I Never, Ever Do Any Damage?

I'm honestly perplexed about this. My weapons just do sod-all damage. In EVERY game I play, win or lose, I ALWAYS have the least damage dealt- in fact, I never get above 80 damage when there are players racking up scores in excess of 500 damage. And it just doesn't make SENSE.

Last game, for example, I was piloting my new Stalker STK-3H. I put at least 2 volleys of double LRM-20s into an enemy Catapult before I found myself in close-quarters with another Catapult. I fired barrage after barrage after barrage of double SRM-6s as well as shot after shot from my 4 medium lasers right into his torso until I actually overheated and I was hitting, I could clearly see I was. I barely missed a shot. But he wasn't taking any damage. And after I was predictably annihilated and left a frustrated smoking wreck on the ground, the end of the game came and I saw that, once again, despite all my hits, I'd done a grand total of 80 damage and lost a head-to-head 1v1 battle against a mech 20 tons lighter than me.

Someone explain how this works. Is server lag causing me to miss every shot and only think I'm connecting? Are my opponents just hacking? This is really frustrating because I'm doing terrible in EVERY single game and I'm not going to get any better because I have no idea what, if anything, I'm doing wrong.

You might be having lag problems, where it shows you are hitting on your screen, but his computer and the server are registering him as somewhere else entirely and making you miss.

Lead the targets a bit, even with your lasers, the netcode/lag is really bad at the minute, they're hitting behind where they appear to be. Watch your reticule for it turning red to register a hit instead of the laser beam.

And for gods sake never just stand back LRMing, get into a range where you can bring ALL your firepower to bear, otherwise you're wasting half your tonnage.
80 damage is terrible though, I'd be ashamed of that even in a light vs a premade!
Perhaps take a video of yourself playing so we can give pointers.

Considering how retardedly bad I'm doing at the moment, this sounds most likely. It's simply impossible for me to be "just that bad".

If it's just a problem with the game, I have a better solution- stop wasting time on this rubbish until Pirahna get it sorted out.

What rig are you playing one, what kind of connection are you using, where are you physically (USA? CANADA? Germany? Japan?)?

Lots of lag and other issues, the other nite a Jenner went by my Atlas flat out at about 50 meters, I snap shot my AC/20, I saw the shot clearly miiss and hit the ground in front of it, the jenner blew up and showed me as killing it. He did the WTF dude so I'm guessing he saw the same thing I did but the server did some thing else. You need to watch the hud crosshairs, if it turns red your close.

Just want to make sure you didn't miss this part of his post. This is how you know the server says you hit the target.

Latency issue is the only explanation that comes to mind. I have this quite often when my ping goes up to 450+ (usually in the evening as I only have VDSL). Though with high delay I am surprised you do not mention the firing delay on SRMs that is quite substantial as well.

Its gotta be latency.

The only way to tell for sure IMO would be to drop with someone, have them die real fast, and then watch you.

Its either latency, or you are way worse than you are giving yourself credit for lol.

I usually get this too, unless they perform a dead stop. Even large lasers seem like pea shooters until they line up for me and allow me to shoot the same spot multiple times. Even then, it still seems a little lackluster damage, but it's certainly better.

The rule of thumb is latency. mechs arent really where they appear to be, and with weapons that spread damage over time, such as lasers, it's easy to hit all over their mech instead of a single spot, if they move, due to latency.

I would recommend you take a smaller mech, like a hunchback, until you get a better hang of the game.

Since the day i got 5 kills and my damage showed as 0 yes 0, i kept a screenshot, i have paid litle attention to the damage numbers. I constantly score 2-3 kills plus but my damage numbers show in the low range i got no idea why.

You may want to try to hit the targets on the server rather than on your screen.

Currently because of net code visually seeing yourself hitting a target does not mean you hit them, you need to see your reticule turn red, if you or the person your hitting have bad lag you might need to aim even further ahead of the mech to hit them, also are you keeping full locks till your LRM'S - hit? If you loose lock try currently also lose guidance

elite founder with 27 post asking noob question.

i thought of all people you would be the one answering these ones.

anyway its lag/netcode aka. "lag shield". only way to be sure your hitting anything is if the ridicule is turning red or not. with this info, if you still end up with little damage dealt after another game, then it might be something else entirely aka. "bug"

Well we've all "been there" at one point and its better to ask :-)

It really depends where he is located and which connection he has. When experiencing severe lags, you can basically as well just shutdown or quit like in any shooter or - after getting a hang of "lag shooting" - still can pull off some basic damage, maybe even get a lucky shot that disables an enemy mech.

I agree with the Roland that the Stalker may not be ideal to get a hang of human lag prediction.

The ones with the blue triangles are on your team, not enemies... ;)

The end-game screen does not add in fire on your team-mates. :P

That's definitely lag.

I hear a lot of complaints about the netcode, but the real problem is that the majority of players (or at least half) seem to be playing from europe. There's no netcode good enough for an action oriented game such as this that can also deal with everyone running 200+ latency. I mean, look above, one poster is speaking seriously about playing with 450ms ping and making it work. Preference be damned, 200+ms is not playable and damn well shouldn't be.

I run at 45-65ms and never have an issue hitting anyone, whether they are lagging or not.

Want to fix the netcode? Launch a Euro server. Even league of legends had to do it, and MOBA is way easier to play under high latency conditions.
