Back in MW4, I had grand dreams of awesome on-line play. Having played through the (for me) fun and interesting campaign/story mode of vengeance I expected some impressive work done in the multiplayer end of things. I was sorely disappointed to see the two game modes were effectively deathmatch (melee) and team deathmatch. I was astonished to see that all the extra game components (turrets, towers, vehicles, mech bays, etc) were simply there for adornment ... if they were even there at all.
Now that I'm steadily having my life consumed by MWO, I find myself hitting the same wall, albeit with some extra objectives (though having only recently joined it appears it's devolved into kill first, capture if you're losing - or zerg the enemy base before they have a chance to recover).
So anywho, I set about working on the MW4 map editor and trying to make it do what I wanted. And trying. And trying. After what I recall felt like an eternity of working with the most infernal piece of software ever conceived, I somehow had coaxed it into giving me what I wanted - the AI working equipment. Then came team designation. Them came the crown jewel - assigning a point value (incrementing the frag counter on a kill).
I then thought well this is cool, but how about an objective? So I gave the team designation and frag counter to 2 or 3 buildings. They had absurd values, like 10000 frags, obviously making them far more important than nuking a player for a meager 1 frag.
I setup an elaborate map and uploaded it to mechbay (I think). It was wildly successful, easily my most successful mod ever. I enjoyed the acclaim and made a smaller version of the map. *edit* as a sequel aptly named 'siege 2 */edit*
However, I swung back to the original - which I loved the scale of. 4 km x 4km. It literally took 5 minutes to maneuver and even then, you weren't sure if you were going to be attacked while you were out. So some seriously cool strategies came about. However I saw the game was limited to 8x8, but the map editor clearly allowed 16x16 players. I somehow found the email contact for the lead dev on the mw4 game and asked him about patching it to allow more players.
He said send me your map, sounds interesting and I'll see what we can do.
A scant few months of no response later black knight was released... including a new game mode .... shockingly called 'siege'. *edit* it was virtually a carbon copy of my mod in game mode; it also included a 12x12 mode XD */edit* Now, I didn't mind - for me it was about the fun of it. They polished it and obviously had direct access to the game so it was pretty cool how it came out. I never got credit for it, but given I still have the original source code I don't think it's necessary to debate the story. Yes, me posting this anecdote makes me feel good... but at the end of the day my point is effectively this:
Why can't this be added into the game? It would not take much to add some simple turrets and destructible buildings. Assign point values and make some assymetrical (or symmetrical for all I care) base on base combat. Add in extras (mech bays, etc) as models are developed and coded.
Moreover, it'd make a heck of a lot more sense if the game is truly going into a world-capturing mode.
I don't know if microsoft's code would preclude you from adding it, since technically I never owned it to begin with (as it was a mod, it falls within their legal ownership, not mine). But if it matters, you certainly have my blessing
