No, blowing your side of the argument out of proportion and screaming louder than you is just the normal way people react to practically anything on the forums. I thought everyone knew that.

You post that your point is:

Quote

Game development and balance overrides all things TT, MW & BattleTech canon aside from storyline.

So keep the storyline, but forget everything else for the sake of the game? The rest of that stuff is for the sake of the game.
They can't go around making a practically new game and slap on Battletech dressing to it. We had that in the past and it didn't fare well with the fanbases. ;)

The way that PGI is doing this seems like a fair compromise. They're using the TT rules as a basic starting point and adjusting it from there. Heck we're allowed AMS and ECM slots for specific chassis, but in the TT rules I could put damn near anything I want so long as the tonnage and crits fit.

If anything the current programming is limiting the gear heads out there, but they learned to like the adjustments and so far it is fun. :)

Exactly. Thanks for putting it eloquently. Except I think some haven't learned to like the adjustments & I feel that many are afraid to speak up against these people. I love the game so far... except this current update feels more buggy the earlier... but nevertheless I'll continue playing.

I'm not whining. I'm just tired of people trying to reference Sarna for every little detail for in-game specs then getting mad that there has been deviation.

OF COURSE I accept that MWO's roots are from TT and BT canon. I'd expect nothing less than the games foundation to come from there. But for us, on computers, playing this RPG FPS, things get a little more complicated (just a tad) than dice and people arguing with which specs should be allowed because of a cardboard hex game from 25 years ago. I'll grand you some props because painting the dam models must have taken dozens of hours- but that has no bearing today. Put them on a collectibles shelf and have some fun in the modern era.

edit. typo

So lets add Force Fields, Regenerating Health, "Healer Mechs," and all that too. Hey, why not, those are modern concepts, and FUN!
I'm all for some deviation. I *want* some deviation (like making Ferro Fibrous actually a worthwhile option compared to Endo Steel.)

But I also want the classic, stock builds to be able to drop right into MWO with little deviation - so things like weapon weights, how many crits they take, and how many crit slots are on a mech should not change.

Alter weapon heat, damage, and range (within reason) all you want.

Add new mechs, new weapons, fine.

But do please ensure that those variants in Sarna can in fact be built in MWO, and that means some aspect of TT construction and modification rules has to be as true to the source as possible.

Heres the deal: every time you say or read the word 'mechwarrior' or 'jenner' or 'catapult' you are referencing the tabletop game. Every mech in this game appeared first in the tabletop game. Every weapon you will fire or have fired at you comes from tabletop. Every piece of mech gear comes from tabletop. EVERYTHING in this game (except for the execution) comes from, and is based upon, tabletop battletech. If you don't want to hear or talk anymore about tabletop, then you can't talk about MWO. Which I think would be best for all of us.

Honestly.

I roll to see which 3025 autocannon is the worst. All signs point to the AC5. I might have rolled a magic 8 ball by mistake

I'm sure they'll try. But if they break a rule or two I really wouldn't care. Just saying.
TT is a guideline to follow rather than set rules to live by. A model so to speak.
Our opinions differ.

Not at all Pops. Just stating my opinion that TT's specs require adjustment to convert into a video game.

Really? I thought you were stating your opinion of being Tired of Tabletop Even Entering the Discussion.

This last post of yours sounds like backpedaling.

based on != direct translation of
world of warcraft is based on the warcraft series but I didn't see anyone getting all worked up because orcs no longer had just 60hp or whatever. it's the universe that matters not all the little nitpicky details.

Perhaps you should reread, lol. I don't need to reread this thread, I heard your message loud and clear in the thread title.

But continue backpedaling, by all means.

Lol this is just well stupid since I have never played TT so when I talk about all things MechWarrior I am talking about this video game.

Besides isn't this MWO and not what ever the TT game was named ? Also why is it that a so called TT sim is using active aiming like all FPS Video Games if its a sim ? Did you guys have toy mechs that had to be aimed by hand and shot little projectiles across you moms dinner table ?

Its a Mech Shooter video game, deal with it.

Thats exactly what I mean when I say 'Learn your roots.' Glad we agree on something, at least.

And for the record I've never, ever said I wanted a direct translation of TT to MWO. My position has always been that this game is based on TT, and throwing TT balance concepts out is simply ignorant, foolish, and not true to the battletech IP.

But all the video games are based on Battletech...

You know what, nevermind. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an obviously unarmed man :)
